Austin D. Baltz Elementary received a B rating from Niche and shares a building with the Red Clay Consolidated School District. Thomas McKean High School has a C-plus rating from Niche and serves about 940 students with a student-teacher ratio of 14-to-1.

Fun at the fairgrounds
There are many parks throughout Elsmere, including Fairgrounds Park, the former site of the Delaware State Fair in the early 1900s. While it’s now home to two ball fields, the park is still used for community events. There are plenty of playgrounds in easy reach as well. And Elsmere Dog Park is a popular spot for pet owners whose four legged friends enjoy the ability to free roam and play on obstacles. Maple Avenue Park has an updated playground, picnic tables and benches. Vilone Park is known for its peaceful atmosphere, playground and baseball field, a well-used spot for community pickup games.
