A small town with a lot to offer

Bordering Massachusetts, the small Connecticut town of Enfield is really a conglomerate of several communities like Hazardville and Thompsonville. In between pockets of subdivisions, residents will find farms, forests and clusters of shops and businesses. Enfield manages to offer a lot of variety in terms of living options, recreation and living and dining, and further, is right between two major New England cities. “Enfield has a convenient location between the cities of Springfield, Massachusetts and Hartford Connecticut,” says Stephen Travali, an Associate Broker with Century 21 who has been selling properties in the area for almost 40 years. “It’s a close-knit and diversified community.” Two-bedroom homes start at $275,000, but there are options for multi-generational families and seniors as well.

Homes for single families, multiple generations and seniors

Many subdivisions sprout off state routes, with forests and farms filling in the gaps. Most of the time, at least one side of the street is accompanied by a sidewalk. Living options abound in Enfield. “Enfield has a variety of rentals, as well as housing purchasing options from beginner to higher-end homes,” Travali says. On the market, homebuyers will find bungalows from the 1920s, Cape Cod and raised ranch-style homes from the ‘60s and ‘70s, New Traditional homes with colonial influences and occasional historic homes from the 19th, or even 18th, century. Two-bedroom homes tend to start around $275,000 with more modern, spacious builds fetching above $450,000. Ready-to-go multi-generational homes with at least 3,000 square feet of space usually start around $350,000. Condo units start at around $230,000 for about 1,200 square feet of space. Shaker Heights is a 55+ community offering 21st century homes which usually sell for around $500,000.

Shops and eateries, from casual to upscale

Many big chains can be found in and around Enfield Square, a shopping mall. Stores include Costco, Dollar Tree, Target and Home Depot. Residents can shop at local shops too, like Russo’s Bakery, which offers over 30 flavors of cannolis from carrot cake to red velvet. Russo’s also functions as a café, primarily serving pizza. Country Diner is a casual American restaurant that serves up hearty breakfasts and lunches. Their often filled up parking lot attests to locals’ fondness of the diner. For a more upscale experience, residents can visit Buona Vita Bar & Grille, which cooks Italian fare from pizza to parmigiana. The Yarde Tavern is a popular bar with 50 beers on tap, many rotating seasonally. Residents don’t only visit to watch the game, they also come for the bar’s trivia and live music offered on select evenings.

Driving a car, riding a magic carpet

The Magic Carpet Bus serves the Enfield community. Residents can transfer to CTtransit lines, though neither run through Enfield’s subdivisions. Many residents prefer getting around by car and take advantage of Interstate 91, which runs down the western side of the neighborhood. Springfield is only a 12-minute drive north after crossing the Massachusetts line.
