Hiking, biking, swimming and golfing
Fairfield has over two dozen parks: some are simple green spaces for play and picnicking, while others have fishing, athletic courts and winding hiking trails. Rockville Hills Regional Park has more than 600 acres of grasslands and woodlands. Its 14 miles of trails include paths for mountain bikers and a loop called the All People’s Trail designed for accessibility. Central County Bikeway and Grizzly Island Trail line either side of State Route 12, and Fairfield Linear Park Trail is six miles of the former Sacramento Northern Railway line. Year-round, swimmers can use the indoor pool and waterslides at the Aquatics Complex at Allan Witt Park. Fairfield is also home to several golf courses.

For a day of laser tag and mini golf, folks can head to Scandia Golfland. Locals can also gather at houses of worship like Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses or Guru Nanak Sikh Temple.

Commuting on Amtrak
Fairfield stretches around Interstate 80 and includes the intersection of Interstates 80 and 680 and State Route 12. Fairfield Transit provides public bus service; a car is needed for most transportation, but for commuters to neighboring cities, travelers can hop on a train at the Fairfield-Suisan Amtrak station and disembark in Sacramento in under an hour. The ride to San Francisco is an hour and a half. The Amtrak has many other stops, connecting passengers to surrounding stations in and out of state. Sacramento International Airport is 47 miles away. Within the city, NorthBay Medical Center includes a level two trauma center.

Fairfield has a Mediterranean climate with sweltering summers and rainy winters. The fire risk increases with elevation, putting the neighborhood of Rancho Solano more at risk. Meanwhile, low-lying neighborhoods near the marsh have an increased flood risk. The last major fire occurred in 2020; it sparked from lightning strikes during wildfire season, which lasts from August to October.
