Fayetteville, Arkansas can thank the U.S. Postal Service for its name. Almost 200 years ago, the area once used as an Osage hunting ground — now home to the University of Arkansas and the Walton Arts Center — was known as Washington Courthouse. That is, until the postmaster general complained that two "Washingtons" in one county was one too many and forced the settlers to make a change.
Fast forward to today and Fayetteville — also known as Walmart’s hometown — is ranked by U.S. News as the seventh best metro area to live in the country. Home to a flourishing music and arts scene, historical sites, great food, an abundance of outdoor activities and much more, Fayetteville has something for everyone. A thriving job market in sectors like education, health care, business and more welcomes young and established professionals alike, while the city’s famously friendly climate and many available activities make it an inviting place to settle down.
