Foothill Farms is a census-designated place and suburb on the outskirts of Sacramento. In the mid-20th century, it was one of several residential areas that sprang up around the McClellan Air Force Base, a major employer in the Sacramento area for decades until it closed in the 1990s. Despite the base’s closure, the military and government remain major industries here. Neighborhoods in Foothill Farms are dominated by residential subdivisions full of winding streets and single-family homes. The North Division of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office oversees law enforcement and emergency services in this area; Interstate 80 runs diagonally through the southern end of Foothill Farms and connects residents to downtown Sacramento approximately 12 miles away. Evelyn Jenkins, a local real estate agent with 1st Choice Realty and Associates, says people are attracted to Foothill Farms for its relative affordability and proximity to Sacramento, Roseville and Folsom.

At the beginning of 2025, the median price of a home here was $440,000 and listings spent an average of 25 days on the market before selling.
