Fairmont offers a walkable, modern lifestyle with a historic vibe
Like the freshly painted murals next to century-old homes, you’ll find that the Fairmont neighborhood in south Fort Wayne is a mix of old and new. It's a high-demand community in "the 07" area, named after the last two digits of the city's most desirable zip code. Fairmont is known for its lovingly maintained, vintage homes and convenient southside location. Living here means you're close to a popular park, locally owned restaurants and within biking distance of downtown.

Historic homes line the residential streets
Fairmont's historic homes give the neighborhood a vibrant and diverse architectural character. Here, you’ll find Craftsman and Colonial Revival properties alongside Tudor and Cape Cod designs. Some homes date back to 1900, but the majority sit somewhere between 1920 and 1935. Most homes are well-maintained, though a few might need renovations to keep up with the times. Investment properties can sell for under $100,000, but the bulk of homes sell between the mid-$100,000s and the high $200,000s.
Each home in Fairmont is unique, with nods to the Craftsman style.

Some of the city's most popular parks are within walking distance
In Fairmont, you’ll be within walking distance of Foster Park. It’s home to open grassy grounds that stretch to the St. Mary’s River, and a paved trail offers a long loop through flower gardens and meadows. Along with woodsy walking paths, locals can play an 18-hole round on the park’s namesake course or take their kids to the playground. Like most city parks, there’s access to the Rivergreenway, a walking and biking path that is part of Fort Wayne’s 100-mile-plus trail system. When winter blows through, The Summit offers an indoor option. The recreation facility hosts community events and has a full athletic center.

Mixed-use zoning brings vibrant, local restaurants and nearby stores
The community's aesthetic is not broken by mixed-use zoning, which allows restaurants and small businesses to operate side by side in historic buildings. “You don’t have to leave the neighborhood to find a place to eat,” says David Affholter, a Realtor with Century 21 McAfee Home Group. “Fairmont has businesses tucked beside houses, little shops and restaurants. There’s fantastic dining that’s better than average.” Within walking distance, you can head to:
Antonuccio’s Italian Market, serving paninis and charcuterie from an old brick-sided building
The Friendly Fox, a breakfast staple known for its coffee and brunch menu
Chance Bar, which has New American dishes in its upscale, white-tablecloth dining room
There are several commercial stop-offs around town for weekly errands, but Kroger is the neighborhood’s nearest chain grocer, about a mile south of town in Southgate Shopping Center.

The area is close to buzzy event and art venues
Fort Wayne is a creative city, full of public art displays like murals, sidewalk paintings and statues, and in Fairmont, you’re close to some of the area’s best venues. “There are so many different outlets for art,” says Patrick Gillan, managing broker for The Antrim Group with over a decade in the business. “Whether you want to do the art or just see it, there’s a way to participate.” Those looking to try their hand at a new art form can visit The Glass Park, just east of Fairmont, to take a glassblowing class. Nearby, the Clyde Theater serves as a venue for musicians, musicals and plays. Downtown Fort Wayne, less than a 10-minute drive away, is home to Arts Campus Fort Wayne, a thriving cultural district.
Easy commuting, whether it's by car, bus or bike
Fairmont residents have a short commute to the region's top employers. Lutheran Hospital is about 5 miles away, and Electric Works is within walking distance in a mixed-use office space, shared with a market that houses local eateries. “The economy is strong, which is a big plus. Our health care system employs a lot of people, as do the schools and local businesses,” Gillan says. Fairfield Avenue, South Calhoun and Highway 27 run alongside the neighborhood and head 3 miles north to the city center. Most residents can walk to bus stops on Fairfield Avenue to catch the direct line downtown.
