North Triangle offers a quiet lifestyle minutes from city perks

Just a couple of miles away from Downtown Fort Wayne, North Triangle is a small neighborhood that sits right by the St. Joseph River. Here, you’ll find classic homes that have been lovingly maintained throughout the years and a quiet vibe, but one of the community’s biggest perks is that you’re right next door to so much activity. North Triangle is minutes from local restaurants, popular parks and some of the city’s biggest events.

Well-maintained classic homes line the streets of the neighborhood

In North Triangle, you’ll find that most homes were built in the early to mid-20th century, and they sit on small but neat lots, shaded by trees. Architectural styles here are classic, from American Foursquares to ranch-style homes and Cape Cods. “The Cape Cod styles in these older neighborhoods are cool because they have space at the top of the house, like an attic,” says Patrick Gillan, managing broker for The Antrim Group. As a Fort Wayne local, he’s been assisting homebuyers for over a decade. “A lot of people turn them into office spaces, a little playroom if they have kids, something like that.” Homes usually sell between the low $100,000s and $200,000s.

Close to shopping centers and the local restaurants of downtown

Less than a mile north of the neighborhood is Glenbrook Square, one of the city’s largest retail areas. Here, you can find major retailers, big-box stores like Target and chain grocery stores such as Kroger. There are also plenty of chain restaurants alongside local spots, from the burgers and brew at Bubba's 33 to the brunch picks at Charlie’s Place. Alternatively, you can head into downtown Fort Wayne to sit down at one of the many popular restaurants and bars that the city’s center is known for. “There’s this great place called The Deck that’s totally blown up. It’s in this historic building and you can dine right by the water,” Gillan recommends.

Biking the Rivergreenway and exploring many nearby parks

Living in North Triangle, you’re close to several different recreational hot spots. You can hop right on the Rivergreenway, a walking and biking trail that runs over 20 miles along the St. Joseph River. Vesey Park is just a half-mile from the neighborhood, and at nearly 16 acres, this park is mostly a shaded green space to enjoy picnics or play a game of soccer. Other options, all within a 2-mile radius, include:

  • Lawton Park, home to a playground, skateboard park and baseball fields
  • Franke Park, where locals fish at Shoaff Lake and take bikes to the Fort Wayne BMX Race Park
  • Headwaters Park, a popular waterfront park with boat launches, a winter ice rink and bike paths

Heading over to downtown Fort Wayne's bustling events

Being so close to downtown Fort Wayne means being able to quickly pop over to any of the city’s many annual events. There are several cultural and art events throughout the summer, including the Cherry Blossom Festival, Taste of the Arts and Germanfest. From May through October, hundreds of local vendors set up booths on Saturday morning to sell goods at the Fort Wayne Farmers Market.

Easy commuting with U.S. Route 27, the Rivergreenway and city buses

U.S. Route 27 runs north to south right by the neighborhood and leads to downtown Fort Wayne, less than 2 miles away. Indiana State Road 930, another main city route, is nearby and connects to several other major roads, including U.S. Route 30 and Interstate 469. While most locals have a car, there’s public transit at the ready, with several Citilink bus stops walkable from North Triangle. Biking is also big in Fort Wayne, and with the Rivergreenway running through the community, you can easily pedal your way around.
