Foxfire is a golfer's escape in Moore County
Golf enthusiasts seeking a quiet community in Moore County find what they're looking for in Foxfire. Here, homes on spacious lots dotted with pine trees overlook the community's two golf courses. Private horse farms and swaths of undeveloped land surrounding Foxfire further contribute to the rural feel. "It has some beautiful streets and nice houses. It feels remote; the moment you leave Foxfire, you're in the country, and you're going to be in the country for a while," says Tim Venjohn, Moore County resident since 1989 and broker/owner at Rhodes & Co. Real Estate in Southern Pines. Still, communities like Pinehurst have shopping and dining within a 10-minute drive, and Fort Bragg is 40 miles east.
Newer homes in subdivisions overlooking the green
Ranch-style homes built in the 1970s and '80s typically sell for between $335,000 and $485,000, and condo units sell for between $165,000 and $270,000. Most homes here, though, were constructed more recently. New Traditional homes with two-car garages built in the past 10 years usually sell for between $360,000 and $860,000. Buyers can also purchase lots in the area to build their own homes. Foxfire's Cap Index Crime Score is a 1, much lower than the national average of 4.
Public tee times at Foxfire Golf Club, events at Village Green Park
Foxfire Golf Club's 36 holes of golf stretch throughout the community and are available to the public. The gently rolling fairways of the Grey Fox course and Red Fox course are surrounded by pine trees and challenge players with water features and sand traps. "If you want a nice little rural feeling golf course, it's its own environment," Venjohn says. "People like it because you're away from everything."
Village Green Park has a playground, walking trail and picnic shelters. Foxfire also has a community pool, pickleball courts and a clubhouse for residents. The village hosts seasonal events for families in its clubhouse and Village Green Park, including a July Fourth cookout, Halloween "Trunk-or-Treat," and a Christmas parade with decorated historic cars and golf carts.

Shopping and dining in Pinehurst, Southern Pines and Aberdeen
For dining, locals can drive east to Pinehurst, Southern Pines or Aberdeen. The spacious Pinehurst Brewing Company serves craft beer and a menu of pizza, burgers and barbecue. Maxie's Grill & Tap Room is another popular choice in Pinehurst, offering a laid-back space with a full bar and a menu that includes sandwiches and salads. Harris Teeter and Lowe's Foods are also nearby off state Highway 211.
Driving to Pinehurst, Fayetteville and Fort Bragg
The Fort Bragg Army base is about 40 miles east, and Pinehurst is less than 7 miles east of Foxfire. Drivers can get to either on Highway 211. FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital is in Pinehurst and is the closest major medical facility. Fayetteville, just east of Fort Bragg, is home to Fayetteville Regional Airport. "It has good roads with good access to 211. You've got fairly direct access to Aberdeen and Pinehurst," Venjohn says.
