Franklin Farm is a census-designated place of about 20,000 people in Fairfax County that’s filled with comfortable homes and landscaped green spaces. “Franklin Farm was an early adopter of subdivisions,” says Joan Reimann, a Realtor with Corcoran McEnearney who’s served the area for over 10 years. “They were developed as an established subdivision in the ‘80s before there were a lot of subdivisions outside of the Beltway.” This has created a stable, comfortable atmosphere, where residents can walk or bike along greenways to go to public parks. Supermarkets and medical services are close at hand, and locals can drive a few miles north or south to reach popular shopping centers with retail stores and restaurants. Franklin Farm is mostly residential, but commuters frequently travel about 25 miles to Washington, D.C., for work.

Locals shop at Reston Town Center and Fairfax Corner
The community has a strip mall with a supermarket and a few chain restaurants, but most people will drive out of Franklin Farm to go out to eat. “It’s pretty equidistant to Fairfax Corner and Reston Town Center, so those are two big destinations to go shopping or grab dinner,” Reimann says. Both shopping areas are about 5 miles away and are known for their wide array of retail stores and entertainment and dining options. The Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, which is about 3 miles from Franklin Farm, is the closest medical center.

Commuters head to Ashburn and Washington, D.C.
Numerous state routes crisscross through the area, leading commuters to major interstates. “Franklin Farm is a good commuter base,” Reimann says. “You see a lot of couples where one works in the tech center in Ashburn, and the other goes to D.C., so they split the commute.” Ashburn is around 15 miles northwest of Franklin Farm, while D.C. is about 25 miles east. The community doesn’t have direct train access, but people often head to the Vienna Metrorail station to catch the Orange Line. Franklin Farm is under 10 miles from Dulles International Airport, making longer trips convenient, though residents can often notice air traffic.
