Along sidewalk-lined streets dotted with palm trees, homes here are mostly late 20th-century ranch-style homes and midcentury bungalows with up to three bedrooms. These homes typically range from $150,000 to $400,000, depending on size and renovations; 6,000-square-foot lots are typical and allow for grass lawns or drought-tolerant landscaping. There are also a few 21st-century new traditional homes that range from $400,000 to $450,000; these homes can be one- or two-story and feature Spanish Revival stylings, like terracotta roofs. John Duncan, a Realtor with Atlantic & Pacific Real Estate, says the area is popular for land investors and professional office spaces. “[The area] is an investment opportunity for professional businesses like doctor’s offices,” Duncan says. Highway City is a part of the Central Unified School District, rated B overall by Niche. Local kids start at Teague Elementary, rated C-plus, where kids can get an early start in athletics, like basketball and cheer.
