Condo buildings reach skyward in Friendship Heights Village

The high-rise condo buildings of Friendship Heights Village tower over Wisconsin Avenue in Maryland, less than half a mile from the border of Washington, D.C. It is the most populated census-designated place by density in the entire country, with over 5,000 residents in less than a tenth of a square mile. Those residents are drawn to the community for its amenities, luxury properties and proximity to the nation’s capital. “Friendship Heights Village is nestled between northwest Washington, D.C. and Bethesda,” says Lise Courtney Howe, an associate broker with Keller Williams Capital Properties. “You have a sense of community, but you’re close to both. It’s easy to go take advantage of the activities going on in those larger communities, but you still have the small, cozy setting in Friendship Heights Village.” Shops, restaurants and recreational amenities are all contained within the community, meaning locals don’t have to go far for many aspects of daily life.

Maryland condos offer amenities

Condos are the only form of housing available in Friendship Heights Village. Layouts, amenities and prices vary between the several buildings, which include the Willoughby of Chevy Chase, 4620 North Park Avenue, the Carleton of Chevy Chase and Willard Towers. Prices can range anywhere between $200,000 and $800,000. One-bedroom condos typically sell for between $200,000 and $400,000, while two-bedroom condos go for $400,000 and up.

Schools rated an A or better in Montgomery County

Montgomery County Public Schools serves the area, and the district earns an A rating from Niche. Somerset Elementary School and Westland Middle School also earn ratings of A. Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School scores an A-plus. According to U.S. News & World Report, Bethesda-Chevy Chase High is ranked in the top 1,000 high schools nationwide as of 2025.

Small community parks in and around the Maryland area

Several small parks sit within Friendship Heights Village. Hubert Humphrey Park has a fountain encircled by benches and pathways, while Page Park is lined with trees. Just west, Willard Avenue Neighborhood Park offers a basketball half-court, playground, field and walkway. North of the community, the Chevy Chase Club is a private country club with an expansive 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, a swimming pool, ice rink and restaurant.

Shops and restaurants dot Friendship Heights Village

The Shops at Wisconsin Place sits within Friendship Heights Village, where visitors can browse at stores like Bloomingdale’s, Whole Foods and Sephora. A Saks Fifth Avenue is located across Wisconsin. Restaurants also dot the area. “You’ve got several restaurants in Friendship Heights Village if you want to walk there,” Howe says. “We have a Clyde’s, which is one of our older restaurants. They started in Georgetown and have an outpost in Friendship Heights Village.” Other nearby stops include Yasmine, which serves up Middle Eastern food, and Lia’s, which dishes out Italian fare.

Getting around Maryland and Washington, D.C.

On-ramps to the Capital Beltway sit less than 5 miles north. Arlington and Washington, D.C., are less than 10 miles away, while Alexandria is about 15 miles south and Baltimore sits about 40 miles north. Commuters can also hop on buses on Wisconsin Avenue or the Washington Metro at the intersection of Wisconsin and Western Avenues. “It’s on the Red Line, so it takes you up to Shady Grove, and then loops in a U shape back up to Silver Spring and Glenmont,” Howe says. “It connects with the Orange, Yellow and Blue Lines, so you can get around. It’s an easy walk into downtown Bethesda.” MedStar Health: Urgent Care at Chevy Chase sits within the community. Dulles International Airport is just over 20 miles west.

The Community Center is the site of annual events

The Friendship Heights Village Community Center hosts events throughout the year. “It’s very nice and has concerts and discussions, and you can sign up and attend a chat,” Howe says. “They have art shows and art lessons. I think one of the nicest things about Friendship Heights Village is the Community Center, because when you have high-rises like that, it’s really nice to have that anchor.” The Community Center also hosts movie nights and Bingo nights, as well as concerts at Hubert Humphrey Park.
