El Encanto Heights
Midcentury ranch-style homes and ‘90s-era housing developments
Set in the foothills of the Santa Ynez Mountains, sloping streets wind through El Encanto Heights, lined with well-maintained sidewalks. Single-family housing inventory predominantly consists of tract-ranch-style homes. “I know the market is tricky for first-time home buyers because prices continue to elevate, but El Encanto Heights has a lot of entry-level homes,” says Ali Evans, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices. “If you are looking for a little bit more space instead of the condos of the downtown area, this is the perfect place to look.” Prices for a three-bedroom ranch-style property from the ‘60s with an attached garage range from $1 million to $1.5 million, while a four-bedroom Spanish Revival-style home from the ‘90s with barrel-tile roofs and stucco exteriors can sell for $1 million to $1.7 million. Late 20th-century condo and townhome units with three bedrooms sell for around $800,000 to $1 million. Lots here feature a scattering of tall old-growth palm and pine trees and dense local shrubbery.Career Technical Education facilities at local schools
El Encanto Heights is zoned for two different public school districts. Local students will start at Goleta Union School District, attending schools like Brandon Elementary, which scores an A-minus from Niche, before progressing to the Santa Barbara Unified District for middle and high school. The A-rated Goleta Valley Junior High offers after-school tutoring for qualifying students Monday through Thursday as a part of its Program for Effective Access to College. The A-plus-rated Dos Pueblos High features the brand-new Virgil Elings Center for Creative Learning and the Virgil Elings Center for Media and Communication. The new facilities support the school’s Career Technical Education Pathways in product development and media arts.Set between U.S. 101 and to Santa Ynez foothills
U.S. Route 101 borders the neighborhood's southern edge, allowing residents to commute into Santa Barbara, about 12 miles away, or explore the West Coast from Los Angeles to Tumwater, Washington. Many of the neighborhood's major roadways, like Cathedral Oaks Road, have bike lanes. Residents can also use the Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District’s bus system, including Line 23, which circles El Encanto Heights before stopping at the Camino Real Marketplace. The Goleta Amtrak station is less than 4 miles east of El Encanto Heights. The city of Goleta began construction on a new full-service train depot next to the existing Amtrak platform in the spring of 2024; there is not yet a projected completion date. Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital and Santa Barbara Airport are both about 5 miles away.Neighborhood parks and teeing up at Glenn Annie Golf Club
Locals can access the beachfront about a mile away at Haskell's Beach or visit the Coronado Butterfly Preserve to witness monarch butterfly migration between August and October. Plenty of parks and green spaces are peppered throughout El Encanto Heights, including Evergreen Acres Park, where locals can play a round of tennis or disc golf. Populated with oak trees and other dense foliage, the park also features a playground. Bella Vista Park consists of mostly open grassy fields and a small playset. The Goleta Community Center, recently reopened in April 2024, has five pickleball courts. Golf lovers can take advantage of Glen Annie Golf Club, a semi-private course in the foothills of the Santa Ynez mountains that offers public tee times.National retailers at Camino Real Marketplace
Just across the 101, residents can knock out pretty much all their shopping needs at the Camino Real Marketplace. Locals can pick up groceries at Albertsons or Costco, catch a movie at Metropolitan Camino Real Cinemas, or visit other retailers like Ulta and Ross. Locally owned eateries within the neighborhood include Timbers Roadhouse, a traditional steak and barbeque restaurant with an outdoor dog-friendly patio and games like cornhole. Home Plate Grill serves breakfast until 2 p.m., as well as American fare like barbeque, pizza and burgers.Community gatherings with local officials
The City of Goleta organizes periodic Coffee & Community events, where locals can get to know one another, discuss relevant issues facing the neighborhood and meet with public officials, including the mayor. While not regularly scheduled, these family-friendly gatherings, usually taking place at local schools like Brandon Elementary, have coloring activities and a playground for kids to enjoy.
