Georgetown blends rural and urban living

Georgetown’s central location lets residents enjoy a range of outdoor activities, from hiking through state forests to digging their feet into the sandy Atlantic coastline. This southern Delaware town also offers a mix of home ages and a downtown shopping and dining hub. “It’s a growing town that’s just 30 minutes from the beach,” says Beth Conaway, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty, who’s been selling homes in the area for nearly five years. Georgetown serves as the seat for Sussex County, so it's also a hub for local government jobs.

Mix of older, traditional homes and contemporary styles

Many of the homes in the area are ranch-style houses and Cape Cods from the mid- to late-1900s, as well as contemporary-styles from the past 25 years. Houses are clustered around downtown and sit along gridded streets. Most properties have driveways, but some have only street parking. Older homes typically sell for $200,000 to $400,000, while newer houses usually go for $300,000 to $600,000.

Local shops and dining spots downtown

West Market Street downtown is the beating heart of Georgetown. “There’s quite a bit of mom-and-pop shops downtown,” says Conaway. Popular restaurants include Georgetown Family Restaurant and Maudy's Hispanic Cuisine. El Mercado Market sells produce and Latin goods. Redner’s and Walmart are in the north end of Georgetown for groceries.
