The Toyota plant and sprawling country land
Southeast Scott County houses Georgetown’s decades-old Toyota plant. The facility is one of the region’s leading employers and the Japanese carmaker’s largest auto assembly plant in the world. In addition to the plant and the surrounding industrial area, most of Southeast Scott County consists of sprawling rural landscapes marked by groves of trees, horse farms and winding creeks. Institutions like the Evans Orchard and Cider Mill keep the community active, particularly during the fall when they invite locals to pick fresh fruits and gourds, taste apple ciders or simply visit their sunflower field. “They just have lots of really cool things going on out there,” says Anne Huber, a lifelong Georgetown resident and Realtor with Indigo & Co. Realty. “It’s more rural, the schools are good on that side of town, and it’s close to Lexington, if you’re commuting to Lexington.”
Country living with a slice of suburban homes
Southeast Scott County begins on the outskirts of Georgetown, where homebuyers will find subdivisions filled with contemporary Traditional, Colonial Revival and Craftsman style homes on small lots, no larger than a quarter acre. These homes make up the bulk of the sales in Southeast Scott County and costs mostly range from the upper $300,000s to the upper $400,000s. On the farmland beyond Georgetown’s city limits, ranch-style houses and prominent Colonial Revivals with Greek and Georgian touches sit on multi-acre lots surrounded by vast stretches of fencing. This part of the county will maintain its peaceful setting due to environmental measures limiting development. Homes here have footprints of several thousand square feet and can cost between $800,000 and $1.5 million, depending on size and acreage. Many plots of land here are up for sale, too, and will run between $250,000 and $500,000.

For those looking to enjoy drinks and warm slices of pizza in a casual atmosphere can go to FatKats Pizzeria & Restaurant. While Golden’s Pub & Deli is a local watering hole that’s easy to spot with its small jockey statues flanking its entrance. Or for drinks near the Toyota plant, craft beer enthusiasts can sample the many selections at Country Boy Brewing. The city of Georgetown offers even more dining options plus chain stores like Kroger and Walmart. “I have all the convenience that I could ever need. It’s not super busy like Lexington, but all the conveniences are right there in the downtown, and Lexington is about a short 20 minutes away,” says Dylan Marson, communications manager for Georgetown/Scott County Tourism.
