Byfield Village
Suburban Neighborhood in Georgetown, Massachusetts

Spread out Colonial Revival homes
Folded within the hills of northern Massachusetts, homes here are typically set on properties that offer privacy and space. “Lots are a little larger here than other neighborhoods, resulting in a quieter community,” Muldowney says. Lots around this area typically encompass at least a half-acre and are accented by mature trees. Some houses in Byfield Village date to the 18th century, but most were built in the 20th century. Colonial Revival styles are most common, with farmhouse-influenced variants and classic facades popular among larger estates and newer construction featuring New Traditional styles with contemporary details. Prices for single-family homes typically range from $450,000 to $800,000, though newer construction and larger estates may fetch up to $1.5 million.Exploring the region’s pine forests and wetlands
Locals are able explore the wetlands and forests of Essex County at Martin Burns Wildlife Management Area, north of Byfield Village. Stretching across 2,135 acres, the vast tract offers opportunities for hunting, hiking and wildlife watching along its rocky terrain, marshes and dense pine forests. Another picturesque spot for a stroll is the Box-Georgetown-Byfield Rail Trail, an 8-mile river trail along part of the Parker River. Muldowney notes that portions of the Parker River are popular for boating, kayaking and canoeing. Recreational areas are also nearby, like Manter Soccer Field and Action Cove in West Newbury, which provides sporting facilities for baseball, soccer and basketball. Residents are also less than 20 minutes from various sandy spots along the Massachusetts coast.Enriching academics in the Triton School District
Children in Byfield Village can attend public schools in the Triton Regional School District, a system shared among the towns of Newbury, Rowley and Salisbury. Kindergarteners through sixth graders may start at Newbury Elementary School, which earns a B from Niche. The school’s Workshop Arts, Inc. after-school enrichment program focuses on theater and offers live performance opportunities. Students can then progress to B-minus-rated Triton Regional Middle School and advance to Triton Regional High, which earns a B grade and shares a campus with the middle school.Byfield talents on display
The village’s original town hall, built in 1898, now holds the Byfield Community Arts Center. The venue is clad in local artwork and features rotating exhibits, and musical and theatrical performances grace its stages regularly. The Newbury Town Library also hosts community events, including guest author speakers, writer workshops, story times for kids and book clubs for all ages.Interstate 95 to New Hampshire and Boston
Convenient access to Interstate 95 appeals to Byfield Village residents. The roadway provides a direct shot south to Boston, slightly over 30 miles. The New Hampshire border is only 12 miles away, and the Newburyport and Rowley commuter rail stations provide easy access to Boston in roughly 45 minutes. The Rusty Can and shopping in Newburyport
A favorite among the dining options in Byfield is the Rusty Can, beloved for its highly rated barbeque, which receives accolades from local lifestyle publication Northshore Magazine as both the readers’ and editors’ top pick. “It’s very popular and people come from all over,” Muldowney says. For grocery stores and a wider range of dining and shopping options, residents head to nearby communities such as Newburyport or West Newbury. Supermarket options include Market Basket and the Natural Grocer. In Newburyport, the Tannery Historic Marketplace is a destination for shopping. The district features boutiques, specialty stores and an array of cozy eateries along the Merrimack River.
