Room to spread out in Booty’s Crossing

While Georgetown’s newer developments reflect the overall growth of Central Texas, Booty’s Crossing — as one of the town’s older neighborhoods — affords potential homebuyers a character you won’t find in a freshly-built subdivision. “Maybe you don’t want seven acres, maybe you want one acre or half an acre versus the cookie-cutter neighborhoods that are just .18 acres, which is all they build now,” says Denise Arndt, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Residential who has lived in Georgetown her whole life. Residents have room to breathe in the comfortable suburban environment of Booty’s Crossing.

Booty’s Crossing ranchers and new traditional homes

Surrounded by acacia and live oak trees, the homes in Booty’s Crossing sit along wide suburban streets. The older developments and their brick ranchers back up to newer subdivisions characterized by new traditional houses along the neighborhood’s outskirts. “Some of the homes back to the river and those are very popular,” Arndt says. “The Oak Crest area has some houses that back to the river and usually larger lots as well.” The neighborhood also features two 55-plus retirement communities, with single-story contemporary homes. These generally sell between the mid-$200,000s and mid-$400,000s, while the ranch-style homes go between $400,000 and $800,000. The larger homes in new communities sell for as much as $1.3 million. Many of the developments in Booty’s Crossing have no homeowners association, which Arndt mentions as another selling point.

Cookouts and picnics at Booty’s Road Park

In the heart of the neighborhood, Booty’s Road Park gives locals a city-managed green space with a picnic pavilion and grills. Residents can rent the area for parties or other events like races or nature walks. The park also offers trailheads for the San Gabriel River Trail, a path alongside its namesake river that connects to over 27 total miles of hiking and biking, circumnavigating the nearby Lake Georgetown. At the lake, residents take their boats out for a day on the water, or cast their lines from the shore, looking to catch a bass or sunfish.

High marks for Georgetown schools

Booty’s Crossing is located in the Georgetown Independent School District, and most students start their education at Village Elementary School, rated a B-plus by Niche. The neighborhood splits up after primary school, with kids either attending the A-minus-graded Benold Middle School or B-minus-rated Tippit Middle School, followed by either the A-minus-graded Georgetown High School or East View High School, given a B grade. Both high schools offer support programs to ensure students are ready for college, the military or a career.

Chain restaurants and shops along Williams Drive

Businesses cluster on Williams Drive, the main commercial strip of Booty’s Crossing. Alongside the usual national chains, residents can stop for a drink in Barking Armadillo Brewing’s chic industrial courtyard, or enjoy a classic southern meal at the Catfish Parlour, with its 70s-inspired decor. Otherwise, locals take the quick trip downtown to what the city of Georgetown calls the “most beautiful town square in Texas” for plenty of shops and dining choices. “Most of our local stuff is in the downtown area, which is just a little bit further than Williams Drive,” Arndt says. For groceries, residents go to the nearby H-E-B on the corner of Williams Drive and D. B. Wood Road.

Quick access to Interstate 35

Just off Interstate 35, Booty’s Crossing has access not just to downtown Georgetown but the Central Texas area writ large. Most residents work in town with an easy commute, but those looking to enjoy a bigger city for the day can drive the 30 miles south to Austin. The CARTS bus system provides intermittent service between Georgetown and Austin, but the city is currently working on improving its public transportation infrastructure. The closest major airport to the neighborhood is Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, which offers flights across the country.

City of Georgetown’s annual events

Residents of Booty’s Crossing take pride in the city of Georgetown’s big events. “In the spring in downtown Georgetown, there’s the Red Poppy Festival, and in the winter there’s the Christmas Stroll,” Arndt says. “Each of those is very popular in our town. The Red Poppy Festival features a three-day celebration with vendors and music, while a parade highlights the Christmas Stroll.
