Mediterranean influences in Seville homes
Sidewalks line the winding roads of Seville, going past lawns with olive and palm trees and cacti. Wide driveways split off the road, leading to attached garages. “We took a whole street and built 17 models,” Sullivan says. “We had seven or eight different theories of homes, and each one of these homes had different plans.” He says that these models, which are the basis of the new traditional homes that fill the neighborhood today, span 1,300 square feet to 6,000 square feet. Mediterranean influences such as tile roofs, arches and stucco exteriors decorate the houses. Prices for a two-to-three bedroom range from $400,000 to $550,000. Anything larger can cost $550,000 to $1.5 million. Properties closest to the golf course tend to cost more. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Seville has a very high risk of heat waves and a relatively high risk of wildfires.Member access to golf course and water park
The rest of Seville is designed around Seville Gold and Country Club. Gary Panks designed the 18-hole course. “We tried to make the golf course not so stuffy,” Sullivan says. “It’s more of a family-oriented private golf club.” Golfers can take lessons, compete in tournaments or practice their swing. There are opportunities for kids to get involved, with the “Crush It!” Program teaching the basics and the Professional Golfers’ Association Junior League offering more advanced workshops. Other amenities for Seville members include The Sports Zone, an outdoor complex with dodgeball, wiffleball and a batting cage, and a water park with a shallow splash area and two water slides. “They’ve got a big, huge slide where you can see half of Gilbert when you go up,” Sullivan says. “It’s a blast, man. Even the adults go up on that thing.” There are small playgrounds scattered across the neighborhood. Outside the club, people can fish and hike at the Adora Trails. San Tan Mountain Park is a little farther, about 20 miles away, and has 20 miles of trails that can be used for hiking, bicycling and horseback riding. Sullivan attests to the beauty of the mountains.A-plus school district in Arizona
Seville is served by the Chandler Unified School District, which Sullivan says is “a very reputable school district.” He is not the only one who thinks that – Niche gives the entire district an A-plus. Sullivan is one of many parents with kids at Riggs Elementary School, which offers kindergarten through sixth grade and earns an A. Seventh through 12th grade are completed at Dr. Camille Casteel High School, which receives an A-minus. It has 10 courses in career and technical education, including culinary and digital photography.Holiday parades and community events
Neighbors in Seville come together for events throughout the year. Parent’s Night Out lets kids enjoy a fun evening of food and games at the Kids’ Club while parents have a night to themselves. The year’s highlight is the annual Holiday Cart Parade and Toy Drive. Golf carts decorated with tinsel and sparking lights ride through the streets, with Santa’s Elves collecting donations. “That is a sight for sore eyes,” Sullivan says. “Lit up adults and lit up golf carts – I mean, it is fun.” The toys are distributed to families who may need extra help during the holiday season. Seville residents also participate in programs for Inspire & Achieve, a Gilbert-based nonprofit that helps local children access therapy. One of the more popular events is Cornhole for Charity, a tournament-style fundraiser.Cars needed to leave Seville
While sidewalks make it easy for residents to walk from their homes to the country club, cars are required to get around the rest of Gilbert. The closest highway is State Route 202, about 9 miles away; it is far enough where traffic cannot be heard but close enough to make travel convenient. “You can be in California and San Diego in six hours,” Sullivan says. The nearest emergency room is at Arizona General Hospital, about 5 miles away. Most people fly out of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, about 8 miles away. The airport only works with two airlines, Allegiant and Sun Country Airlines.Restaurants and shops in and around Seville
There are several restaurants available to members of Seville Golf & Country Club. The Grove has Sunday brunch and dinner and cocktails throughout the week. Agua Restaurant and Bar is inside the waterpark on the grounds and offers a smaller menu of appetizers. There are several other locally owned eateries nearby. At Lucky Lou’s, patrons can enjoy a hot dinner and cold beer with a Vegas-themed backdrop. Downtown, residents can enjoy a bite to eat at Joe’s Real BBQ, one of several eateries owned by the Johnston family. A couple of grocery stores are nearby: Fry’s Marketplace and Basha’s. “A lot of people do both,” Sullivan says. “It depends on their mood. Basha’s grocery store is a small hometown grocery store. You feel like you want to support your hometown, so you go there, or it’s easier because you’re not going to have a huge store. But then, Fry’s has so much more to offer.” SanTan Village is an outdoor shopping mall about 8 miles away with stores like Macy’s and Nordstrom Rack. Lowe’s, Walmart and Target are within 7 miles.
