The East Indian-style mansion Miradero was built in 1904 and nicknamed "the Castle" by locals. After Brand willed the estate to the city, it was developed for public use and, today is the site of the Brand Library & Art Center. "Brand Park is historic and a local treasure, featuring community events and educational programs. It is also an outdoor space and hub for sports, hiking, biking and walking paths," says Sheida Rezazadeh, a broker associate with Keller Williams Real Estate Services.Balboa Elementary, Toll Middle School and Hoover High
Balboa Elementary School and Eleanor J. Toll Middle School both earn B-plus grades from Niche, while Herbert Hoover High School receives an A-minus. Fourth through sixth graders at Balboa can participate in Glendale Unified School District's instrumental music program, and the robotics program is an extracurricular highlight. Toll and Hoover have dual language programs in Armenian, Italian, Spanish, French and Korean, starting from other feeder elementary schools. Additionally, the district has a half-dozen magnet schools.Community events and programs around Brand Park
Brand Park, which also has a playground and seasonal wading pool, hosts events like The Cherry Blossom Festival, held at the Shoseian Whispering Pine Japanese Tea House in March. The festival spotlights Japanese culture, with tea ceremonies, martial arts performances and cuisine. Shoseian's Tea House and Friendship Garden also hold third-Sunday events. The Brand Summer Music Series takes place on the lawn and grassy hillsides behind the Brand Library & Art Center. Exhibitions, workshops and other gallery events showcase local artists and writers. Other community resources include teen programs, repair cafes and clothing and art supply swaps.Walkable, with a bike route on West Mountain Street
El Miradero has quiet, walkable streets and many sidewalks, though some streets only have them on one side. West Mountain Street is a bike route. Stops for the Beeline Bus and LA Metro buses are outside the neighborhood on West Glenoaks Avenue, and several miles away is the Fairmont Park and Ride, with 61 parking spaces. The Glendale Transportation Center (GTC), about 5 miles away, has a bigger lot and access to Metrolink rail, Greyhound and Amtrak. Neighboring Burbank has two Metrolink stations, one downtown and the other at the Hollywood Burbank Airport. Interstate 5 is a few miles from El Miradero, and state Route 134 is also in the area. The trip to Downtown LA is about 12 miles.Kenneth Village shops, Glendale Galleria and The Americana
At the south end of El Miradero is Kenneth Village, a small commercial area known for locally owned shops and restaurants. The Coffee Commissary and the Village French Bakery each craft pastries on-site. The family owned LA-area chain, Los Desvelados, uses hand-pressed tortillas for over a dozen types of tacos. Kenneth Village also has a dance studio, a music store, a pharmacy and a toy store. JONS Fresh Marketplace and Super King Market are two supermarkets close to El Miradero. The county's third-largest mall, the Glendale Galleria, is several miles to the southeast. There's also The Americana at Brand, a retail and lifestyle complex with over 75 businesses. On Tuesdays, the Glendale Gateway Certified Farmers Market is held on Brand Avenue.
