River Edge has a quiet atmosphere between two golf courses

River Edge sits right between two golf courses — one public, one private. The two green spaces also create a sense of quiet to go along with an isolated feel for the neighborhood, separating it from other Glendale communities. Still, Green Bay Avenue runs down the center of the community, linking the neighborhood with the rest of the North Shore suburb and its restaurants, schools and other community spaces.

Local golf courses and activities at Brown Beer Park

Brown Deer Park includes the public Brown Deer Park Golf Course, where Tiger Woods made his professional debut in 1996 at the Greater Milwaukee Open. The rest of the park features a pond, disc golf course and a playground. “In the winter, people go cross-country skiing in Brown Deer Park,” says Glendale resident and Realtor Florence Carneol with Coldwell Banker Commercial Realty. Additionally, there are soccer fields, baseball diamonds and sand volleyball courts. The grounds also has an entry point to the Oak Leaf Trail, a 135-mile paved multi-use path.

The private Milwaukee Country Club is the other golfing option in the area. Memberships allow for usage of the golf course, tennis courts and swimming pool.

A mix of condos and single-family homes in River Edge

Most other Glendale neighborhoods have single-family homes, but River Edge has condos available in communities such as Manchester Village and Glenview, often priced from $90,000 to $230,000. Subdivisions feature Colonial Revivals, split levels with Tudor influences, and ranch-style homes with gardens and trees in front lawns. Driveways often lead to attached two-car garages. Prices typically range from $300,000 to $590,000. According to Carneol, Glendale’s manufacturers and car dealerships lower taxes for residents, which may mean homeowners pay less than those living in communities like Whitefish Bay and Shorewood.

While River Edge sits along the Milwaukee River, it typically only gets mild flooding during heavy rainfall. Severe flooding occurred around Milwaukee and Glendale in August 2025, causing property damage and travel disruptions, though this weather isn’t typical for the region or community.

Nearby public and private education options for River Edge students

Parkway Elementary School serves kindergarten through third grade students and earns a B-plus grade from Niche. Glen Hills Middle School receives a B. Nicolet Union High School offers Hebrew among its foreign language course selections and scores an A rating.

The Torah Academy of Milwaukee is a private option in the area. The all-girl Jewish high school maintains a B rating from Niche.

Glendale's local restaurants and the nearby mall

Bistro on the Glen’s big windows allow plenty of natural light while dining. The American joint serves everything from burgers and steak to jumbo shrimp. The Brick Pub and Grill is the suburb’s local sports bar, complete with 14 TVs for sports and highlights. Aldi is about 2 miles away. Down by Bayshore, Glendale’s mall, a Target and Trader Joe’s are also about 3 miles away.

Community summer concert series and the Fourth of July Celebration

In the summers, Richard E. Masolowski Glendale Community Park hosts concert series at the stage. Wednesday evenings in June and July are the Concerts in the Park series, while Rhythm Nights are on Thursday and Saturday evenings from July to September. The biggest festival of the year is the Fourth of July Celebration in Kletzsch Park, complete with a parade, food truck festival and live music. The fire department also shows up with a firetruck, setting up the hose to rain down for the Summer Soak. “They close down the park, and they delineate seating areas for the fireworks,” Carneol says. “They have these huge fireworks.”

Buses stop along Good Hope Road and I-43 is nearby

Even though the parks, courses and river create an isolated feel in the neighborhood, the 80 bus stops along Good Hope Road, continuing down Green Bay Avenue to Glendale’s restaurants and community parks. Compared to other Glendale communities, River Edge is farther from Interstate 43, adding to the quiet community feel, free from the sounds of traffic. Still, I-43 links commuters to downtown Milwaukee, about 9 miles away. The Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is about 16 miles away. Aurora Urgent Care is about 1 mile away and the Ascension SE Wisconsin Hospital-St. Joseph is about 8 miles away.
