Golden Hills is Tehachapi’s most desired community

No community in the Tehachapi area is more sought-after than Golden Hills. This sprawling residential development lies across the golden grassy hills of the Tehachapi Mountains. It provides a middle ground between a tract development and a rural mountain community. “People love Golden Hills because they get all the nature and views that the area has to offer without having to live on a big horse property with acres of land to deal with,” says Realtor Lorena Eneriz-Semerenko, leader of the Semerenko Team with Re/Max All-Pro Lancaster. Homes in Golden Hills sit on third- to half-acre lots, giving residents ample privacy and access to the outdoors while being in a developed community just a few miles from places to shop and dine.

Homes in East Golden Hills versus West Golden Hills

The bulk of Golden Hills is comprised of tracts of ranch-style and New Traditional homes built between the 1980s and 2000s. However, it can be split into two communities, East Golden Hills and West Golden Hills, on either side of Woodford-Tehachapi Road. “East Golden Hills is completely different than West Golden Hills,” says Eneriz-Semerenko. “East has smaller, lower-priced homes and less views, while West has larger homes and great views of the mountains and open spaces.” West Golden Hills is one of the most desired communities in the Tehachapi area. Homes in East Golden Hills sit closer together in a more suburban fashion, but they’re still a popular option. Small ranch-style homes in East can start around $300,000, while larger homes in West can cost closer to $700,000. The community’s north end offers 2- to 3-acre lots where brand new homes are being built. New spec homes and spacious barndominiums occupy these properties, ranging from $700,000 to $900,000. The area has an overall median price of around $415,000.

Hiking and mountain biking in Golden Hills Nature Park

The rolling hills and peaks of the Tehachapi Mountains define the landscape around Golden Hills. Outdoor space is plentiful in any direction and within the community at Golden Hills Nature Park. This expansive recreation area provides miles of trails, including a loop around Tom Sawyer Lake, in the center of the community’s clusters of homes. Freedom Trail is a paved option for smoother walks or rides around the community’s perimeter. Meadowbrook Park is Golden Hills’ more suburban recreation space on the east side. It has a Little League field, a playground and lawn space where dogs are allowed. More hiking and mountain biking trails can be found throughout the surrounding mountains. Tehachapi Mountain Park, 7 miles south, is popular for its wooded trails and elevated views.

Healthcare in Tehachapi and a 40-mile commute to Bakersfield.

Tehachapi is home to most of the area’s commercial activity. There are small local businesses and larger employees like Adventist Health Tehachapi Valley on the north side of Tehachapi, less than 5 miles from Golden Hills. Bakersfield, the nearest major city, offers much more activity. It’s 40 miles northwest on state Route 58, the only freeway around Golden Hills. Meadows Field Airport is the nearest place for commercial flights, located about 50 miles away on the north side of Bakersfield. However, Golden Hills residents can travel by train from the Amtrak station in downtown Tehachapi, which is only 2 to 3 miles from most homes.

Events throughout the Tehachapi Valley

Although Golden Hills itself doesn't host many events, nearby Tehachapi has a full calendar of activities. The Tehachapi Valley Recreation & Parks District puts on events throughout the region, including Memorial Day and Fourth of July celebrations as well as a fishing derby at Brite Lake each spring.
