Granby has a dedicated population and room to grow

Right along Fulton and the Oswego River, Granby has plenty of space to grow. The town completely surrounds Fulton’s western side and stretches into four school districts. Many properties offer a couple of acres, giving residents space to grow. However, the town has room for improvement, especially in parks and commercial areas. “The supervisor is doing a lot looking for grants and looking for funding, so that we can build up our community center and so that we can build a park for our kids,” says Mallori Stoia, director of youth programs for Granby and a longtime resident. In addition to several school district options, what Granby has now is a strong community spirit. People take pride in the schools they graduated from and the success of the town’s future. “A lot of people here grew up here, graduated from Hannibal or graduated from Fulton, and stayed in the area or came back to the area,” Stoia says. “Like me, I came back to the area. I bought the house right next door to where I grew up, and my mom lives next door to me.” Granby receives a 2 out of 10 Cap Index Crime Score, which is lower than the national average of 4.

Granby is split into four different public school districts

Four school districts serve Granby. The Fulton City School District serves most of the community, particularly the eastern and central portions. It receives a B-minus rating from Niche, and high school students can enroll in the Early College High School program for information technology and health sciences. Hannibal Central School District is the other major district, encompassing the central and western portions of the community. It receives a C-minus rating, and the community is voting in 2025 on an improvement project to upgrade school facilities. B-minus-rated Phoenix Central School District supports a small portion of students living on the southern side of town, while C-rated Oswego City School District serves those living on the northern side. “A lot of people have pride for the school they graduated from,” Stoia says. “I love that I’m an alumnus from Hannibal and my kids go there.”

Single-family homes separated by fields and farms in Granby

Open fields and farms stretch between single-family homes in Granby. Telephone wires hang over the narrow, country roads. Homebuyers can find a mix of manufactured, ranch-style and split-level homes, ranging from $130,000 to $340,000. “Our taxes are low,” Stoia says. “Our fire department is a volunteer fire department, and the police are the Oswego sheriff, so we don’t have to pay for our own fire department or police.” Properties span between half an acre and 5 acres. Riverfront properties with private docks and piers are slower to come on the market, but two recent sales priced around $500,000 and $730,000.

Fishing and boating spots and nearby golf courses

The Oswego River runs alongside Granby and is a popular boating and fishing spot. On the southern side, Battle Island State Park Golf Course is a full green open to the public overlooking the river. In the winter, it’s open for cross-country skiing. The Don Butler Soccer Fields hosts the local leagues. Fishing and kayaking are common on Lake Neatahwanta, but swimming is prohibited due to algae blooms in the warmer months. Stoia says that their town supervisor is working to improve and add to the town’s parks, specifically to revamp the community center and add a playground. “We really do need more spots where we can gather,” Stoia says.

Getting to Fulton, Oswego and Syracuse from Granby

Granby’s location puts it close to two major Oswego County cities. County Route 3 heads 5 miles into Fulton, where there are grocery and dining options. New York Route 48 runs along the river, linking Granby with Oswego , about 15 miles away, where Oswego Hospital is also located. Syracuse is about 24 miles south, and Syracuse Hancock International Airport is 26 miles from Granby.

Local American restaurants and diners in nearby Fulton

Rosie’s Tavern is Granby’s only pub, owned locally. For other options, people can head into Fulton. Tavern on the Lock overlooks the river with an expansive deck. It serves American food, like burgers, chicken and steak. Mimi’s Drive-In is a classic diner with pancakes and waffles for breakfast, burgers and steaks for dinner and a cake of the day for dessert. Granby has its own Walmart, but there’s also an Aldi 5 miles away in Fulton. Brannan Farm Stand is a local produce shop with seasonal options and fresh-cut flowers.

Granby's youth program and bi-monthly senior luncheons

The youth program is one of the main activities in Granby, hosting various activities from movie nights to ice cream socials throughout the year. Senior citizens can attend bi-monthly social luncheons. In October, 13th Hour Rising Haunted Hayride offers scary hayrides and indoor mazes on Fridays and Saturdays.
