Grant is a small, rural town between White Bear Lake and Stillwater
Grant is a rural community of winding country lanes, lush farms and equestrian properties. It sits just north of the St. Paul suburbs, putting it within commuting distance of the Twin Cities and just west of the village of Stillwater. “It’s a sought-after area. It’s very rural, and many of the homes are on 10-acre lots or more. It’s also in one of the top-ranked school districts in the region, which is a huge draw,” says Realtor Joe Walsh of Pop Realty, who lives in neighboring White Bear Lake.
Homes have large lots, woodland views and plenty of open space
Homes in Grant are situated on sprawling lots, often surrounded by woodland scenery and open space. Some of them sit along the shores of pristine lakes and streams. “You get a lot of acreage, and there are a lot of horse ranches out there,” Walsh says. Wood-sided cabins, ranch-style homes, Traditional homes and newly built luxury homes can all be found here. Prices range from around $500,000 to nearly $2 million depending on the size and acreage of the home. Many homes in Grant have their own well and septic system.
Residents are close to lakes, rivers and golf courses
There are three golf courses tucked away in Grant’s idyllic woodlands. Logger’s Trail Golf Course and Applewood Hills Golf Course are the town’s public courses, and Indian Hills Golf Club is a private club and wedding venue. Some of the area’s best-known outdoor destinations are within a short drive of Grant. Residents can spend a day on the water at White Bear Lake, one of the region’s largest lakes. It has several parks and marinas dotting its shores that attract a crowd in the summer months. Grant is within about 7 miles of riverside parks, campgrounds and boat launches situated along the banks of the St. Croix River. Bikers have easy access to the Gateway State Trail, an 18-mile trail that travels from St. Paul to Pine Point Regional Park, passing through Grant along the way.
Grant has a handful of dining options, but locals head elsewhere for groceries
Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter, a family-owned German restaurant, offers diners a lodgelike dining experience replete with German imported beers, bratwurst and schnitzel. It’s situated in a pine forest and has scenic views from a large outdoor patio. Also within town is Cozzie’s Tavern & Grill, a local pub with a large outdoor space and weekly live music. For a lively downtown experience, residents can head to Stillwater, just 6 miles east. This picturesque village, situated along the St. Croix River, is known for its boutique shops, bars and eateries. Major grocery chains and big-box stores are found in Mahtomedi, about 6 miles west of Grant.
Students attend highly rated public schools
Grant is split between two school zones. Those living on the west side attend O.H. Anderson Elementary School, which gets an A rating from Niche. The next steps are A-rated Mahtomedi Middle School and A-minus-rated Mahtomedi Senior High School. Niche ranks the high school 10th best in the state for athletics. Those living on the east side attend B-plus-rated Rutherford Elementary School before heading to Stillwater Middle School and Stillwater Area High School, both of which earn A-minus ratings.
Getting around the Twin Cities metro area
State Route 36 runs along the southern edge of Grant. It offers residents a direct route to Interstate 694, a major commuter highway for the Twin Cities area. It’s about 20 miles to St. Paul and 25 miles to downtown Minneapolis. There’s no public transportation in Grant, so residents will likely need a vehicle to get around. St. John’s Hospital is the nearest medical center, about 10 miles south. For air travel, it’s about 25 miles to Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport.
