Gateway to the dunes

The main features of Guadalupe are hinted at in the area’s nickname, “gateway to the dunes.” These protected dunes are made accessible to locals through the Dunes Center. “The Dunes Center promotes the conservation and restoration of the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes ecosystem through education, research, and the support of cooperative stewardship,” says Gloria Villegas, outreach and volunteer coordinator at the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Center.

Unique protected landmark

The Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes take up a significant portion of this community and are a national natural landmark that stretches from Pismo Beach to the north and Point Sal to the south. The Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Center is a natural history museum that educates visitors on the unique flora and fauna that call the dunes home. Leroy Park is the oldest in the county, dating all the way back to 1871, and the park along with its community center was recently renovated to include everything from horseshoes to basketball courts to an updated gymnasium.

Ice cream and authentic Mexican treats

El Padrecito’s Ice Cream is a popular joint that locals love for its abundance of ice cream flavors and additional treats like tamales. For more Mexican cuisine, El Tapatio is known for serving up classic, authentic dishes with a homemade quality. For a nostalgic atmosphere and large portions, locals go to Two Guys Pizza where traditional pizzas share a menu with more creative options like the Heart Attack Pizza and the Firehouse Pizza. Guadalupe Social Club and Wine Bar is a wine and beer tasting location with a seasonal menu and indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor space is especially child friendly with a sandbox and games like cornhole and life-size chess. Residents can pick up their groceries from Guadalupe Market or Main Street Market.
