Harbor City has restaurants, parks and hospitals within its blocks

Harbor City is a small community in Los Angeles' South Bay, bordered by Interstate 110. Residential blocks, restaurants and medical centers converge within its narrow footprint. "It's a small community with a mixture of homes and businesses," says broker Marivel Kuenstler with Compass Real Estate, who's been selling in South Bay since she moved here in 1987. "What makes Harbor City special is that you don't need to leave for anything. It has hospitals, restaurants, parks and schools." It also has a mix of housing; buyers can find a convenient condo or a spacious Spanish Revival within a few blocks of taco shops, green spaces and employers like Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center.

Condos and Spanish-style homes line Harbor City streets

Harbor City has a mix of living spaces. "It's a mix of apartments, condos and single-family homes," Kuenstler says. "And now they've added manufactured home communities that are 55-plus." These manufactured homes range from $100,000 to $330,000 for larger models. Midsize condo units and spacious luxury townhomes in the city can cost $300,000 to around $830,000. Single-family ranch-style homes and Spanish Revivals are found in residential tracts. Smaller options can range from $670,000 to $900,000. Large Spanish-style homes and modern ranch-styles can reach $900,000 to almost $1.4 million.

Lomita Boulevard has burgers, tacos and everything in between

There are eateries and markets scattered throughout Harbor City. Lomita Boulevard, running east to west through the city's center, is especially known for its dining. "There are a few specific areas with taco shops, burger places, all kinds of food," Kuenstler says. "You'll find some of the best tacos you'll ever have here." For example, Lomita Plaza on the boulevard has Inferno Kitchen, Mama's Tacos and Don's BBQ — an Asian fusion spot — all in one strip. Specialty markets like La Bodega Ranch Market, a Mexican food store, can also be found around the blocks. Farmers Big 7 Market has fresh produce, and Al-Salam has halal and Middle Eastern ingredients. Groceries can be found at Food 4 Less or Target on Harbor City's north side.
