The neighborhood’s softly winding, hilly streetscapes are surrounded by an abundance of trees, from palms to coast oaks and grand eucalyptuses. The curving residential streets feature narrowly paved sidewalks and are lined with various housing styles. Because of Mission-Foothills’ hillside makeup, the most common architecture includes split-level homes, often supported by stilts. Other typical housing styles are mid-century ranchers and craftsman bungalows mixed in with some Tudor and Spanish designs. Mission-Foothill also features a few groupings of newer, more contemporary-style condominiums. These condos are designed to look like townhouses with multiple-level layouts and include condominium amenities such as a community playground, outdoor BBQ pits and weekly landscaping throughout the condominium grounds. Single-family housing prices start around $680,000 for smaller, less-updated homes and can go up to $1.5 million for larger properties with unobstructed hillside views. Condos typically range from $550,000 for one bedroom and up to $950,000 for three- to four-bedroom condos residing on two- to three levels.Main thoroughfares and highway connections
The neighborhood sits right next to the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Jackson Street. These main thoroughfares lead into Interstate 880 and Highway 238 for convenient traveling or commuting around the East Bay. Mission-Foothill is located along Mission Boulevard, a hub for numerous local dining options, fast-food spots, service stores and other varied shopping opportunities. Emil Villa’s California BBQ is a popular neighborhood dining spot, serving traditional barbecue favorites like pork ribs in a laid-back, classic diner-style setting. Indian cuisine is the highlight of Favorite Indian, a local eatery known for its extensive buffet offerings that include items like buttered chicken and garlic naan. Lemon Crab is one of the newest additions along Mission Boulevard. It specializes in seafood items, including king crab legs and lobster, topped off with an eclectic blend of Cajun and Asian influences. Mission-Foothill offers diverse grocery store selections, such as the nearby Chavez Supermarket, which is well-stocked with traditional Mexican food items. The Supermarket also houses a taqueria with ample seating areas for enjoying authentic, freshly prepared tacos and burritos. Less than two miles east of the neighborhood on Jackson Street is the big-box Safeway store, where residents can shop for more traditional grocery items.Downtown Hayward social events
Mission-Foothill residents can enjoy multiple community gatherings throughout the year in downtown Hayward. The summer season brings the Downtown Hayward Street Parties series, taking place each third Thursday of the month from June to August. Residents can enjoy live music, local food vendors, a wine and beer garden and shopping opportunities, while children can check out the kids' zone. One of the most beloved events of the year is the longstanding Hayward Latin Jazz Festival, where residents come together to celebrate Latin culture with live music, dance performances and local food vendors. During the Halloween season, residents can head to the Hayward Public Library Annual Trunk or Treat and Promise Event. Along with a safe set-up for trick-or-treating, the event features a vintage car show, performances by local bands and cheer squads and family-friendly activities like Halloween crafts and face painting.Historic indoor pools and scenic hiking trails
Built in 1936, Hayward Plunge is one of the most popular recreational spots within Mission-Foothill. Located in a historical building, the site offers year-round indoor public recreational swimming along with water fitness and swimming classes. Hayward Plunge also backs up to a vast greenery area with multiple trails, including Ward Creek. Surrounded by eucalyptus trees, this trail winds through two canyons and provides a 3.7-mile loop for hiking and biking. Additionally located behind Hayward Plunge is Hayward Memorial Park, a small neighborhood park featuring multiple playgrounds for younger and older kids, tennis courts, open green space and a bandstand for outdoor community performances. One mile east and across Route 238 is the Haywood Community Gardens, where residents can rent plots to grow vegetables and specialty plants.
