Helena is full of open space and public land. In fact the entire state of Montana has 30 million acres of state and federal land where people can fish, hunt, hike and camp. The people in Birdseye can utilize their own property for hiking, hunting, horseback riding and fishing, or people hop in the car and head to spots like Canyon Ferry Creek. “Canyon Ferry is one of the best lakes in the state,” says Petersen. “The fishing there is phenomenal.” Helena is also known for its trail system, especially around Mount Helena, which is about seven miles from Birdseye. “The trail system is matched to none,” says Anita Sherley, a Broker with Big Sky Brokers Real Estate.
