Upper West Side is laid out in a tight grid, where the streets are lined with sidewalks and lawns are green and well-maintained. The neighborhood’s west side has historic craftsmen, Queen Anne and shingle-style homes that are often 100 years old or more. Trails just outside the front door
Mount Helena is next to the neighborhood, and it's full of hiking trails, and some, like the Tubbs Trailhead, start inside Upper Westside’s borders. People hike up the mountainside, all year, and especially during the warmer months. The mountainside is covered in whitebark pine, Douglas fir and Engelmann spruce trees and hikers can head to different attractions like Devil’s Kitchen, the peak of the mountain and a rock climbing area, accessible via the 1906 trail, a 1.5-mile loop up the mountain.

Eating and dining near Upper West Side
Upper West side is close to a variety of restaurants around the city. Staggering Ox is a popular Montana sandwich chain with a location just across Euclid Avenue from Upper West Side and the Early Bird Café is a few blocks from many houses in the neighborhood. There are also a variety of breweries like Mount Ascension Brewery at Last Chance Gulch, a popular dining district about two miles from the neighborhood. For groceries, most head to Van’s Thriftway.
Head to the Staggering Ox a stylishly funky restaurant serving unique sandwiches, and salads.
The Early Bird Cafe is a favorite breakfast and lunch spot in the neighborhood.

A stampede of music, rodeo and fun
The Lewis and Clark Fairground is about three miles north of Upper West Side. It's the Helena hub for music, rodeo and other events. The Last Chance Stampede and Fair thunders into Helena every year, turning the fairground into a swirl of live music, rodeo performances and antique cars. Other seasonal events like Fall Fest provide activities for people all over Helena year-round.
