Farmland and suburbia combine
West Helena Valley is a mix of dusty farm roads, wood post fences, and suburban neighborhoods. “You have country living that’s close to town,” says Blake Mendenhall, a Broker with Bahny Realty and life-long Montana residents who lives in nearby Clancy. “You’re within about 10 minutes of all Helena’s stores and restaurants.” Mountains make up the horizon in all directions, and the Missouri River rushes along 20 miles to the east. To the west, hikers can climb Scratchgravel Peak and take in a panoramic view of the Helena Valley. West Helena Valley is part of a floodplain, so some homes in the area are required to have high-risk flood insurance.

Hiking Scratchgravel Peak
Scratchgravel Peak rises to the west, and residents can hike the hilly terrain from the John G. Mine, Head Lane and Echo Lane trailheads. They’re all within about 10 miles of most homes in the farmland sections of West Helena Valley. 20 miles to the east, people head to The Missouri River to fish and hike. Hauser, Holter, and Canyon Ferry Lakes are along the river, and all three are popular fishing and boating locations. “Most of the locals boat on Hauser Lake,” says Mendenhall, “And the Missouri River has some of the best fishing in Montana."
Canyon Ferry Lake offers 57 Pull-through RV sites with both full hookups and water/electric.
