A quiet rural community south of Augusta
Located just18 miles south of Augusta, the rural community of Farmers Bridge does not look like a typical suburb. It is much more rural, and residents prefer the remoteness that comes with that. “Generally, that area is popular with people trying to get out of Augusta,” says Anne Marie Kyzer, a Realtor with Mary Yelton Realty and a lifelong area resident. “It’s right outside of the city’s metro area, and it’s very country, very secluded. There’s really not all that much to it, just big homes on big lots.” Multi-acre lots are not uncommon here, and towering Georgia pines tend to separate lots from one another. Despite some more traditional suburban developments beginning, the rush of city life has not encroached on this backcountry community.
Large country homes with acreage are most common
Because Farmers Bridge is so rural, housing styles vary greatly. “There’s no one dominant style or build year. Homes in the area have a more eclectic feel,” Kyzer says. “There are, of course, some homes being built, mainly to try to create properties with more elbow room. But you won’t find many subdivisions or HOAs, and pretty much every home is on septic instead of sewer. It’s definitely for those who want a more rural feel.” Minimalist ranch-style homes or traditional Cape Cods can price anywhere from $270,000 to $510,000.
Farmers Bridge has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4.
Hephzibah High offers free enrollment in Varsity Tutors
Area children are zoned to attend school in the nearby town of Hephzibah. Hephzibah Elementary, founded in the early 1840s, receives a C from Niche. Hephzibah Middle scores a C-minus. Hephzibah High, home of the Rebels, also earns a C-minus and offers students free enrollment in the Varsity Tutors Platform, enabling access to recorded classes and celebrity-led StarCourses in subjects such as dance, neuroscience and fitness.
Hunt's Xtreme Outdoor is a major recreation hub for the area
Although the scenery is bucolic, organized outdoor recreation not exactly common in Farmers Bridge. “It’s near some public wildlife management areas, but there are none directly in the vicinity,” Kyzer says. The closest available opportunities are Hunt’s Xtreme Outdoors, which features a well-stocked fishing pond, tracks and trails for ATVs and dirtbikes, an outdoor shooting range and a beach. Golfers can head to Pointe South Golf Club, a public 18-hole course east of the area.
U.S. Highway 25 is the quickest way to Augusta
Generally, residents of the area will only be headed one way when commuting. “You’d just take state Route 88 to U.S. Highway 25, and you’re heading right to downtown Augusta,” Kyzer says. “That’s really the only commute. Everywhere else is pretty far from Farmers Bridge.” Highway 25 also provides the most direct route to Savannah for weekend beach trips.
Hephzibah is the closest option for groceries and restaurants
Locals will head to the nearby small town when stocking up the refrigerator. “Hephzibah is going to be your closest grocery store and dining option,” Kyzer says. Residents can pick up fresh produce and pantry staples at KJ’s Market, as well as daily household necessities at the Family Dollar on Windsor Spring Road. Outside of drive-thru fare at Toritos Fresh Mex, other area options are limited. “It’s really tiny,” Kyzer adds. “Most of the time, if folks are looking for a nice meal out, they’ll head into Augusta.”
