The Mesa
Homebuyers can find diverse housing, and some new construction
"Homes aren't cookie-cutter in The Mesa," says Juan Martinez, a Realtor for over 20 years who works with All in 1 Real Estate Services. The neighborhood's diverse architectural styles range from contemporary to Craftsman to ranch. Streets are winding and springing with desert shrubs, palms, oaks and Italian cypress as the mountains rise in the distance. Home prices generally range from around $355,000 to $895,000, depending on size and condition. Yards are spacious and often left in a natural desert state. Many properties are from the 1980s, but the progressive development after that era means buyers can also find newer construction.Education begins in the neighborhood
Students attend the Hesperia Unified School District. Kingston Elementary School, which earns a C-minus on Niche, and Ranchero Middle School, earning a C rating, are both in the neighborhood. Sultana High School scores a B-plus and has an on-campus medical academy program where students learn soft skills and core competencies like CPR.Commuters have public transportation options
Ranchero Road flows west to Interstate 15, around 10 miles away, connecting residents to the rest of Hesperia. Arrowhead Lake Road is on the neighborhood's eastern side and travels north to Main Street. Local transportation through Victor Valley Transit Authority, which has fixed bus routes and on-demand rideshare services, is an additional option for commuters.Parks stocked for fishing, and a club for golfers
Hesperia Lake Park serves local anglers and campers on The Mesa's southeastern edge. The park regularly stocks its lake with rainbow trout, and its small store sells bait and tackle. Grills and picnic benches dot the grounds for grilling and dining on fresh catches. The John Swisher Community Center is also on-site, offering an intimate venue locals can rent for parties and events. Hesperia Golf and Country Club is another spot, offering a semi-private championship course. Lime Street Park is just north, with a swimming pool, athletic courts, skate park and a dog park with sections for larger and smaller pups.Lots of shops and restaurants nearby
The neighborhood's Mile High Cafe serves up American comfort food, and more options are on Main Street, including La Casita Cafe for Mexican and Golden Garden Restaurant for Chinese food. "But the main area where everybody goes is Restaurant Row, on Bear Valley and Amargosa [around 10 miles away]," Martinez says. "Restaurant Row's" eateries include casual chains from Farmer Boys to Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers to locally owned favorites like Thai Dawn Bistro. The Mall of Victor Valley is in the same area with over 120 stores, including Dick's Sporting Goods and JCPenney. Vallarta Supermarkets is nearby for groceries, within 2 miles of The Mesa.Local traditions and a place to worship on Sunday
The Hesperia Days Parade in September has been a city tradition for over 70 years. The parade inspires residents to decorate their floats with different themes. In December, those celebrating Christmas enjoy a tree-lighting ceremony hosted at Hesperia Civic Plaza Park. The main church in The Mesa is High Desert Church, serving the evangelical community.
