Hi-Nella offers a small-town feel 15 miles from Center City
Hi-Nella is one of the smallest boroughs in the state — ninth smallest, to be exact, at 0.2 square miles of land. The neighborhood, which has a population of roughly 1,000 people, has an authentic small-town atmosphere. Hi-Nella’s municipal complex and courthouse are situated in a double-wide trailer. Despite its modest size, Hi-Nella boasts a tight-knit community. “It’s a quiet small community — it’s extra small and so tiny,” says Berkshire Hathaway’s Jeff Senges, who has sold homes in the area for 20 years. “The price is right, the lots are small, the neighborhood is walkable and there are no HOAs.”

Three styles of homes to choose from
Situated on the east side of North Atlantic Avenue, Hi-Nella's grassy residential neighborhood offers a wide range of single-family residences. The majority, which included a mix of two-story split-levels, modern colonial-style homes and Cape Cods, were constructed in the 1950s. From $178,000 to $427,000, each home is on a quarter-acre property with many trees surrounding it. Additionally, most of the properties have a driveway. Residents can take a stroll along one of the many neighborhood sidewalks in the morning or the afternoon.
Hi-Nella's single-family dwellings range from two-story split-levels to modern colonials.

Sterling High School has a large presence on local TV
Kids in the neighborhood go to Samuel S. Yellin School and Parkview Elementary School, which Niche rates as a B-minus. Both schools are in the Stratford School District. Students continue to Sterling High School, located in its own school district, after completing the eighth grade. With a B Niche rating, the high school offers a cable channel where students may create their own shows and learn about television production. Everything is available to see locally on channel 19, including school events, musical productions and sports for the Sterling Silver Knights.
Sterling High School serves nearly 900 students from the Camden County area.

Memorial Field is a place to unwind or catch local events
Earl W. Schilling Memorial Field, also called Memorial Field, is the site of all local activities. Residents use the park as a tranquil spot to unwind in the gazebo or on a park seat in the verdant field when there's no big party or BBQ. Children can also enjoy themselves at the adjacent Dartmouth Avenue Recreation Area, which has ballfields where kids can play through the Somerdale Baseball & Softball league, a basketball court, and two distinct playgrounds for younger and older youngsters.
Have a peaceful moment by the Memorial Field.

A small town with big-city tastes
The high school and most of the town's small businesses are situated on Warwick Road. The majority, including Webb's Barber Shop, renowned for its elaborate hair art designs, are located in the Hi-Nella Shopping Center. Additionally, Schules claims that former quarterback Joe Flacco of the Baltimore Ravens is a frequent patron. Visit the Verdant Café next door after getting your hair done, where you may have a tasty sandwich or bowl while taking in the abundant greenery of the eatery. You can also walk a little distance to have a slice of pizza at Mama Nuccio's. The Warwick Tavern is a great place to hang out and watch sports, serving a vast range of flavor-filled wings. Wilson's, an upscale restaurant that hosts local musicians Wednesday through Sunday, is another great option for an enjoyable evening out with live music. Tony Soprano’s Pizza is also a popular eatery. Additionally, “Chef Milly” (Emili Medley), a Hell's Kitchen participant on Seasons 14 and 17, runs Wilson's Restaurant & Live Music in Hi-Nella.
The Warwick Tavern serves up comfort food for hungry locals.

Winterfest was created by an 11-year-old resident
Locals look forward to Lights on Hiawatha each winter, a breathtaking walk-through holiday lights show and a scavenger hunt organized by Erick Schules, who founded the much-awaited attraction in 2011 at the age of just 11. " The community has been so supportive from the beginning," Schules says. “It’s grown into this big thing that put Hi-Nella on the map and I just love how it brings joy to everyone who comes.” There's more holiday fun to come. A unique Christmas tree lighting ritual is held in the town. Additionally, Schules' own portrayal of the Grinch, Santa, rides past on a firetruck every time. Lights on Hiawatha isn’t the only big event for the community. Schules says that Hi-Nella regularly hosts enjoyable events all year round, such as neighborhood cookouts, pumpkin carving contests and the yearly Fourth of July Parade and Picnic. "We’re like a big family," Schules explains. “And we love getting together. There are only a handful of people I don’t know. And that goes for everyone else in town too. We all take care of each other and that’s what I love about this community. I never want to leave.”
Convenient commutes to Center City
Center City Philadelphia is approximately 15 miles away from Hi-Nella via Route 30 and interstates 295 and 76. Therefore, if you're searching for a small-town neighborhood that feels like family but is close to the metropolis, Hi-Nella should be at the top of your list of locations to live.
