Tropical blossoms and century-old oaks add even more aesthetic appeal. “The whole northern part of Escondido including Hidden Meadows is desirable because the weather stays so pleasant,” says Eugene Wilson, a realtor with RE/Max Connections. “And while it’s a beautiful, high-end kind of neighborhood it can be less expensive than living closer to downtown San Diego. Golfers play scenic fairways at Boulder Oaks Golf Club, a semi-private course backdropped by sweeping views of the San Bernadino and San Jacinto mountains. Thoughtfully designed homes are the norm in Hidden Meadows. Some are tucked away in gated communities, and many have backyard pools. Lovely manufactured homes are available for less than $500,000in the gated Champagne Village 55-and-better community. The Village’s small Craftsman-inspired homes sell for about $750,000. Elsewhere, three-bedroom contemporary split-level homes cost around $930,000, and four-bedroom Spanish-style homes are closer to $1.2 million. Locals kick back on the patio at Side Yard Public House, a neighborhood spot with tv screens, trivia nights and live music. Sampling wine under the oaks is a highlight at Deer Park Winery and Auto Museum, which is also home to a large collection of convertibles and Americana. Children attend schools in the Valley Center-Pauma United School District. Lilac Elementary and Valley Center Middle are graded C+ on Niche.com. Hidden Meadows is three miles from Interstate 15. Mountain Meadow Road is the main road into the neighborhood from the interstate. Escondido is 10 miles south and downtown San Diego is 45 miles south. Carlsbad’s oceanfront is 25 miles west. There is no public bus service in Hidden Meadows.
