Cruise south of Memphis on Interstate 55 and get off on Exit 289 to enter the industrial section of Horn Lake, a suburb 10 miles south of the city. As cars ride farther on Goodman Road into town, the commercial hotels, shops and restaurants appear in the rearview mirror as residential homes, parks and schools become visible. West of the area, Horn Lake blends with Mud Lake, which is split between the Mississippi and Tennessee borders. And with proximity to the Home of Blues, residents take advantage of all that the birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll has to offer—like Beale Street, the Memphis Zoo and Graceland. “Horn Lake is a very diverse community, close to downtown Memphis and minutes from shopping areas and interstates,” says Romond McClinton, a Realtor at Cyre-Leike with 4 years of real estate experience and 20 years of barber experience in the area.
Ranch homes and new constructions
Horn Lake’s residential streets are typically quiet, with sidewalks and minimal trees to shade many of the homes’ small front lawns. Ranch homes with brick accents and 1,300 to 1,700 square footage, some with attached garages and driveways, can be found between $115,000 and $230,000. Cape Cods, modern brick Craftsman with multicar garages and driveways and upwards of 2,000 square footage are usually priced from $240,000 to $340,000. Larger, 2,000- to 6,000-square-foot contemporary homes on an acre or more of land range from $350,000 to $650,000. “And in the western part of town, they’re building new homes at the Willow Point subdivision,” McClinton adds.

Easy commute via Interstate 55
Horn Lake is surrounded by interstate access, with Interstate 69 running south and Interstate 55 just east of the area. Memphis International Airport is conveniently located just 10 miles north of Horn Lake. With an easy commute into the city, where residents can enjoy the excitement and nightlife of Memphis, Horn Lake is a small-town community where residential and commercial districts are dispersed along the area’s many four-lane roads.
Go-to eateries off the highway
Right off Interstate 55 heading into Horn Lake, residents are met with plenty of restaurants and hotels. Memphis Barbeque Company serves Memphis-style barbeque plates in a modern country setting. Farther down Goodman Road into town, A&A Cake Factory bakes fresh custom and seasonal desserts. At the intersection of Goodman Road and U.S. Route 51, coined Bullfrog Corner, there are more restaurants and retail options. “Flights Fish and Wings has some of the best fish and chicken, and they do Soul Food Sundays, which is where a lot of people go after church,” McClinton says. A bit farther south down 51, locals indulge in hamburgers and ice cream at Boomers, a neighborhood staple. And for groceries, a Kroger or an Aldi can be found at a few different intersections along Goodman Road.

A couple of miles south, Latimer Park offers a skatepark, disc golf, tennis courts, athletic fields, a playground and a walking trail around a small lake. The park also hosts several seasonal events, like the annual and free Magnolia Fest in May. “There’s always something going on at Latimer for the kids, and they also host a lot of charity walks and runs there,” McClinton says.
