Huber Ridge has suburban living with schools, shopping and events
Tucked between Interstate 270 and Alum Creek, Huber Ridge is a community in the center of Blendon Township . With almost 5,000 residents, it makes up about half of the township’s population. About 15 miles from Columbus , the area is a home base for commuters looking for quiet, suburban communities like Clintonville without paying the same prices. “Our accessibility is a serious selling point,” says Sandy Raines, founder of The Raines Group. “You’ve got major highways going in every direction: north, south, east and west.” Easy access to shopping, highly ranked schools and local events are also a draw, particularly for families.
Midcentury homes are less expensive on average than nearby suburbs
Many of Huber Ridge’s residential areas offer a traditionally suburban aesthetic: attached garages and fenced-in backyards, all shaded with a generous amount of mature trees and foliage. Sidewalks allow walkability between neighborhoods and some commercial zones. The streets are lined almost entirely with midcentury split-level and ranch-style homes, generally priced between $190,000 and $390,000, depending on size and amenities. The average home value in Huber Ridge is around $300,000 — that's half of the average in Dublin and $150,000 less than in Clintonville.
Students attend schools with high rankings and sports programs
Students in the area typically start at Huber Ridge Elementary School, which has a B from Niche. From there, they’ll attend Walnut Springs Middle School, which has a B-minus. Older students can attend Westerville Central High School, which has an A-minus and saw its football team make the state playoffs in 2024. “Our district emphasizes innovative teaching practices and technology integration, preparing students for a rapidly changing world,” says Melanie Amato, Westerville City Schools’ Director of Communications. “We also prioritize arts education, athletics and a variety of clubs and activities.” Open enrollment and school voucher programs are available to qualified students through the Ohio Department of Education.
Shopping options include staples, diners and Easton Town Center
The Glengary Shopping Center has retail staples like Aldi and Dollar General, but locals often head to the Easton Town Center, 4 miles away, for retail options. Delaney’s Diner offers a classic vibe with vinyl booths, countertop seating and a menu full of breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Carsonie’s Stomboli and Pizza Kitchen combines familiar Italian favorites with Bavarian pretzels, meatball sliders and burgers.
Green spaces offer sports, playgrounds and nature trails
With nearly 90 acres between them, Casto Park and Cooper Sports Park feature full-sized basketball courts, tennis courts, soccer fields, playground equipment and access to the Greenway Trail: a 230-mile series of multiuse trails stretching all over Central Ohio. In addition to 123 acres of carefully landscaped foliage and walking trails, Inniswood Metro Gardens offers group projects, events and classes for adults and children alike.
Annual festivals showcase food, music and local art
Held every spring, Taste of Westerville showcases the culinary skills of some of the area’s best restaurants. It includes food samples, beer and wine tastings and an awards ceremony. Founded in 1973, the Westerville Music and Arts Festival is a weekend of live music, art exhibitions and a silent auction.
Commuters are close to Columbus and local highways
Huber Ridge is surrounded by several highway systems, including I-270 and state Routes 3 and 161. Columbus is about 15 miles away, while John Glenn Columbus International Airport is about 8 miles away. Mount Carmel St Ann’s has an emergency room, a maternity ward and general medical care facilities.
