A farming community in Chambers County
Huguley is a relaxed, agricultural community near the interstate and the Alabama-Georgia border. "Huguley is a quiet community with lots of farming," says Ashley Hicks, a real estate professional with 20 years of experience at Riverbend Realty. "It's outside the city limits of Lanett, but it has a Lanett address. The elementary school is highly recommended. It's the most sought-after school in the county." The area has primarily 20th-century homes, and some are within walking distance of the elementary school. Beyond the farmlands are manufacturing companies. "We have Kia suppliers that moved into West Point about 16 to 17 years ago. But a lot of part suppliers are scattered throughout Chambers County," Hicks says. Many residents travel outside the community for work and shopping.
Homes are priced below the national median
Huguley's gently sloping roads are lined with tall pines and rural homes. The area contains single-story brick houses, cottages and manufactured homes. Outdoor workshops and storage sheds stand on many properties. Hicks says that a home's time on the market depends on the condition. "But we've noticed the [region's] market has been changing lately. Even lower priced homes have been sitting for a while," Hicks says. Move-in ready dwellings range in price between $120,000 and $290,000. Plots of land tend to cost from $6,500 to $21,0000 per acre.
Chambers County has a risk of severe weather, including hurricanes, tornadoes and tropical storms. These intense weather systems lead to high winds, which can damage properties.
Students attend Huguley Elementary
Children are zoned for the Chambers County School District, which has a C-plus rating on Niche. Huguley Elementary has a B-minus; the school has been a part of the area since 1938. The remaining students head to the Valley to attend public school. W.F. Burns Middle and Valley High have C-plus ratings. Families can request student transfers to different schools on the district's website.
Enjoying Lanett parks and the Chambers County Public Fishing Lake
Residents leave the community to reach the nearest public parks. Locals can visit Lanett's L. B. Sykes Community Center to use the pool or the recently renovated gymnasium. Across from Veterans Memorial Park is a play area, basketball court and open field. Chambers County Public Fishing Lake, about 10 miles away, is a secluded destination to catch bass, catfish, and bluegill; the green space is open between February and November.
Local shops like Kim's Butcher Block and Chicken Stop
Huguley has a few businesses, including Kim's Butcher Block and Dollar General. Chicken Stop is the only dining option in the community. The establishment serves wings, hamburgers and fried catfish. More retail and restaurants are found less than 5 miles away. Hicks recommends the nearby El Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant and Merl's Diner. There is a Kroger in Lanett as well as a Walmart Supercenter in the Valley area.
Visiting the Valley and commuting on Interstate 85
The area has multiple houses of worship, including Happy Valley Baptist Church and First Pentecostal Church. EAMC-Lanier Rural Emergency Hospital is around 3 miles away, in the Valley. Interstate 85 reaches across the southeastern border. The busy thoroughfare leads to the state line in about 3 miles. Locals often commute to Auburn, which is roughly 20 miles away.
