Newland was mostly developed in the 1950s and 1960s, and its housing market is typical of inland Huntington Beach. Midcentury ranch-style homes dominate the northern part of the neighborhood, while duplexes and condos are more common on the south side. Lake View Park, located next to Lake View Elementary in the center of the neighborhood, features a playground and walking trails. Just east of Newland, a chain of narrow parks follows local electrical lines and offers a long walking trail and multiple playgrounds. Locals looking to spend more time outside can head a half-mile west of the neighborhood to Huntington Beach Central Park. At 343 acres, the park is the largest city-owned park in Orange County and features multiple fishing lakes, an equestrian center, a few miles of mixed-use trails and a large sports complex, along with the Huntington Beach Central Library.Multiple shopping corridors nearby
While the Newland neighborhood itself is primarily residential, it’s close to several retail corridors. These include Warner Avenue, which runs along the north side of the neighborhood, and Talbert Avenue, which runs along the south side. There's a Sprouts about a mile east on Talbert, and there are shops and chain restaurants spread down both thoroughfares. There is a wide variety of highly rated restaurants within walking distance of the neighborhood, ranging from Pho Laba to Mazara Trattoria Cucina Italiana to Woody’s Diner. The Donuttery, Huntington Beach’s iconic breakfast spot, is located on the west side of Newland and draws crowds on weekend mornings. It’s about 4 miles to downtown Huntington Beach, the heart of the city’s entertainment, dining and nightlife scenes.The local Cherry Blossom Festival draws thousands of visitors
The Orange County Cherry Blossom Festival is held every April at Huntington Beach Central Park. The festival celebrates Japanese culture and features live performances and crafts and food vendors, drawing thousands of visitors. Most other city events, including the US Open of Surfing, are centered around downtown and the beach.I-405 makes for easy commuting
Beach Boulevard is Newland’s major thoroughfare, connecting the neighborhood to the beach and downtown to the south, and Interstate 405 to the north. Multiple Orange County Transportation Authority bus routes run along Beach Boulevard, connecting to the downtown transit center and nearby cities like Irvine and Newport Beach. It’s about 10 miles by car from Newland to both central Irvine and John Wayne International Airport.
