Huron offers a family-oriented lifestyle surrounded by farmland
Huron is a small town of around 6,000 residents in a quiet corner of California’s San Joaquin Valley. “A lot of farmworkers live in Huron, since the town is just surrounded by farmland,” says Adriana Bourdeau, a Realtor with London Properties who has four years of experience in the area. “It definitely caters to a blue-collar population. It’s a quiet atmosphere with a very family-oriented community, and people really want that. When homes do come up for sale, people tend to snap them up, and I think the friendliness of the town is a big reason why.”

Ranch-style homes on residential streets
Ranch-style homes, many built between 1950 and 1970, dominate the residential streets. “There are lots of single-story homes around,” Bourdeau says. “The older ones tend to need some work.” Newly built modern traditional houses with stucco siding and driveways can also be found. Prices for single-family homes range from $250,000 to almost $350,000, depending on renovations, build year and size.

High school students commute to nearby Coalinga
Huron is served by the Coalinga-Huron Unified School District, which earns an overall B-minus grade from Niche. Huron Elementary, on the north side of town, and Huron Middle, on the south side, each receive a C-minus. Coalinga High, nearly 20 miles west, scores a B. Across from the elementary school, Chestnut High is a continuation school that offers alternative pathways for students from grades 9 through 12. It is currently unrated by Niche.
Community parks and the Boys and Girls Club provide space for play
Huron Community Park and Chestnut Park, two side-by-side parks on the north side of town, have basketball courts, a community pool and a baseball diamond. “The parks, especially on Palmer Avenue, are pretty extensive,” Bourdeau says. “The community really does a lot to give their kids opportunities for healthy recreation. They came together and raised a couple million dollars through donations to build a Boys and Girls Club.” The club, which sits on Central Avenue, features a game room, a community garden and a computer lab, among other amenities.

Huron is connected to Fresno by Route 41
Lassen Avenue acts as Huron’s primary thoroughfare, hosting many of the town’s restaurants as well as the Huron Health Center, the closest health care facility. The avenue also connects to Interstate 5, the quickest way to Coalinga, home to the nearest major hospital. California state Route 41 provides direct access to Fresno, about an hour away. “Fresno is the nearest big city, and people go there for everything from shopping to the airport,” Bourdeau says.
Most retail and dining options are concentrated on Lassen Avenue
Huron Valley Foods on Lassen Avenue is the area's main supermarket. Fresh produce is also available at Lassen Market. Residents can also shop for daily household items at Dollar General and Family Dollar. Most restaurants are concentrated along Lassen Avenue, including regional chains like Straw Hat Pizza as well as locally owned options like New China Restaurant and Taqueria Lopez.
