Close to the airport and the jobs it supports in Ameriplex

Ameriplex is a mixed-use section of southwest Indianapolis that borders the city’s international airport along Interstate 70. Development of the AmeriPlex business park began in the mid-1990s to support a national transportation and logistics hub that is anchored by the airport. Nearby residential areas were subsequently integrated into what is now the neighborhood of Ameriplex. Amazon, FedEx and PepsiCo have facilities in the neighborhood, and dozens more distribution centers are minutes away in Plainfield.

A variety of housing options for prospective buyers

The presence of the business park drives demand for housing, and the neighborhood offers a diverse mix that ranges from workforce housing to single-family properties. Prospective buyers can find residential pockets that include:

  • The professionally managed Valleybrook Manufactured Home Community
  • Townhouses and apartments in planned settings with recreational amenities
  • Contemporary homes built close together on walkable, subdivision-style streets
  • Ranch-style and other established homes on spacious lots with mature trees
Certain parts of the neighborhood are more affected by the traffic and noise associated with the neighborhood’s industrial base.
Prices range from the mid-$100,000s to $300,000-plus. Affordability is a major draw, and the median sales price in the low $200,000s compares favorably to neighboring communities. The median is lower in Mars Hill, slightly higher in Valley Mills
and significantly higher in Camby.

Plenty of nearby jobs; downtown is about 30 minutes away

While much of the neighborhood’s appeal rests on it being so close to the many transportation and logistics jobs in the area, those who buy there for the affordability enjoy quick access to other employment centers. Residents can hop on I-70 for a direct commute to downtown Indianapolis. The 14-mile drive takes less than 30 minutes. Nearby Interstate 465 circles the city and provides access to the surrounding suburbs.

Independent special needs school, Decatur Township schools are options

The neighborhood is home to Damar Charter Academy. The independent K-12 public school serves students with autism and other developmental disabilities.
Traditional students are served by the Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township. Valley Mills Elementary, Decatur Middle and Decatur Central High schools are close by in Valley Mills. Select students in third through sixth grades can attend Decatur High Ability Academy. Placement is based on teacher recommendations and test scores. The school is run by the Decatur Township district but is open to students throughout central Indiana.
Students in Indiana can apply for transfers to schools outside of their assigned districts.

Indiana state Road 67 is a convenient corridor for shopping and dining

Walmart Neighborhood Market and several restaurants are located nearby along Indiana state Road 67, also known as Kentucky Avenue. The Camby Station strip mall, which offers more shopping and dining options, and the larger Heartland Crossing development, which is anchored by a Walmart Supercenter and a Meijer, are just short drives away along the commercial corridor. The Shops at Perry Crossing, a shopping, dining and entertainment center in Plainfield , is about 5 miles away.

Echo Hollow Nature Park is a highlight of nearby recreational spaces

Just west of the neighborhood is Echo Hollow Nature Park. One of Plainfield’s premier destinations offers nearly 2,000 acres of natural space. Featured attractions include miles of trails and a popular fishing pond. Echo Hollow is also home to protected habitats for the Indiana Brown Bat, for which it was previously named (Sodalis Nature Park).
Other popular area destinations include:

  • Carson Park, which has ballfields, a playground and a splash pad
  • The Links at Heartland Crossing’s 18-hole course that offers public play
  • Southwestway Park, for hiking, biking and equestrian trails near the White River
