Marion County Fair, Circle City Raceway get motors running
The Marion County Fair, held annually in late June and early July for more than 90 years, is the biggest event in Five Points. The fair celebrates Marion County’s agricultural heritage with livestock barns, while also featuring a carnival midway and performances by the likes of Twiggy the Water-Skiing Squirrel. The fairgrounds remain busy from April through October with weekly races at Circle City Raceway. The quarter-mile dirt track has a full stock car schedule, racing on Friday nights and a handful of Saturdays throughout the season. Houses closest to the Raceway are likely to hear the roar of racecar engines and cheers of fans on race nights.Franklin Township schools, plus Nativity Catholic
Franklin Township Community School Corporation, which serves Five Points, earns an A-minus rating on Niche. Students attend four different schools, beginning with B-plus-rated Thompson Crossing Elementary from kindergarten through third grade. They move on to B-plus-rated Edgewood Intermediate, B-rated Franklin Central Junior High, and A-minus-rated Franklin Central High School. Franklin Central High is the No. 6-ranked public high school in Marion County. Friday night football is a big deal at Franklin Central — there’s enough room for 3,500 fans on the home sideline alone. Nativity Catholic School, located next to Nativity Catholic Church, serves kindergarten through eighth grade and is the only school within Five Points.Suburban streetscapes carved from former farmland
Houses in Five Points reflect three stages of the neighborhood’s development. A handful of Craftsman and bungalow-style houses from the 1910s near the Five Points intersection reflect the first wave. Development continued with subdivisions of midcentury ranch-style homes, and then boomed in the 2010s with subdivisions primarily consisting of two-story Traditional houses with attached garages. Quarter-acre and half-acre lots are typical. “The area has become quite popular, and one can buy a bigger home than in other areas of the city,” Forrest says. “In the last five-plus years, there has been a huge boom in new construction.” Prices in the neighborhood range between $190,000 and $350,000.Indy Island Aquatic Center close by
