A Westside neighborhood in the Indianapolis airport corridor
Located in Southwest Indianapolis, the Stout Field community knows all about trains, planes and automobiles.
Filled with early 20th-century cottages and bungalows in its residential sections, Stout Field is named for a former airport that moved about two miles west and became the Indianapolis International Airport in the 1930s. Today, most of the area’s residents are sandwiched between two interstate highways, a freight railroad line, a large business office district and a National Guard base in the city’s busy airport corridor.
About 65% of the neighborhood is zoned industrial, contributing to the community’s distinctly blue-collar character. While much of the area is loud and busy with all sorts of traffic rumbling around the community, the residential parts have a relatively quiet charm. There aren’t many sidewalks but large old-growth trees shade many of the cracked asphalt streets and homes wrapped by chain-link and wooden picket fences. More than a half dozen churches of various Christian denominations are also located along the primarily residential streets, helping foster a neighborly community.
Stout Field has mature trees lining the streets for a natural atmosphere.

There’s no signs of things slowing down.” At the midpoint for Stout Field, midcentury ranch-style homes and bungalows averaging about 1,200 square feet sell for $150,000.
