Up-and-coming neighborhood near downtown Indianapolis
Stringtown is a neighborhood within sight of the Indianapolis skyline and located next to some of the city's big attractions, namely the Indianapolis Zoo. While some residents have already tapped into this neighborhood's investment potential, Realtor Alex Heygood expects Stringtown to get more attention in the coming years. "Stringtown is definitely an area people are going to start looking at more once they see the quality and see that homes are move-in ready at this price," says Heygood, Realtor with Highgarden Real Estate. In the city's early days, industry helped to spur urban settlement in the Near Westside area, where factories popped up along the railroad tracks. The neighborhood's name is said to have come from the fact that people lived in the string of houses lining Washington Street near the river. Today, many residents live in vintage homes just two miles from downtown. Nearby organizations such as food pantries help support the neighborhood where there is a need.
