Quaint and quiet Westhill
Just across Cayuga Lake Inlet from downtown Ithaca, hilly streets provide stunning views of the waterfront. Despite West Hill’s access to the city and its conveniences, the community’s rolling hills and acres of farmland and woodland give it a rural feel. “Not only is West Hill close to downtown and the Cayuga Medical Center,” says Melissa Shames, a Realtor with Howard Hannah, who lives in the Cayuga Lake area, “but it’s also filled with great hiking trails, fresh food stands and a state park.”

The 8.5-mile path runs along a former railroad line and leads past woods, ravines and a 215-foot waterfall. Nearby Robert H. Teman State Park is 1,100 acres of untamed natural beauty, drastic gorges and waterfalls that cascade into crystal blue pools. During the summer, swimming is permitted in some of those pools. Hikers can choose a variety of trails that lead past 12 waterfalls and at the end of the day, campers can pitch a tent at the lower end of the park.
