A rural vibe with privacy in Harmony
Once dominated by farmland and forest, Harmony is now full of residential streets, but even its most suburban corners still carry echoes of the country. “You’re off the beaten path, you’re not on a main road,” says Danielle Coyle, a Realtor and Team Leader at RE/MAX Select who has sold homes in the area for about 20 years. “It’s all green, there’s a lot of forest around you. There’s not a big park or a big school that’s drawing someone there. It’s just a really well-maintained, quiet neighborhood.” Harmony has a couple of small businesses, but the neighborhood is heavily car-dependent, and most essentials and entertainment require residents to drive a few miles away. Despite this, Harmony is sought after for its large houses and generous lot sizes. “You’re close enough to know your neighbors but you’re far enough to have your own privacy,” Coyle says.
Large homes with plenty of yard space
Even Harmony’s smallest lots typically measure in at a quarter acre, but many are closer to a full acre — and it’s easy to find houses that sit on more than that. These homes are often colonials, farmhouse-inspired homes, Colonial Revivals and new traditionals. Smaller homes are a little rarer here, but start in the low $400,000s. Most houses max out at around $800,000, but a large, updated or new home with more acreage occasionally sells for up to $900,000. “It’s one of the few towns in New Jersey where you can get an acre of land — and you can get a home for under $500,000 on an acre of land,” Coyle says.
While residents rely on cars to access most stores and entertainment, Harmony’s spacious homes and private lots are a major draw.
Tucked away from busy roads, Harmony offers a quiet, green setting where forested areas remain part of the charm.

Jackson Township School District earns a B
The Jackson Township School District earns a B from Niche, which also lists it as the fourth-best district in Ocean County. The district is merging its high schools and closing a middle school to address a shrinking student population. Leaving the district with one high school and one middle school, the move may result in longer commutes for some students. Children can begin their educations at Crawford-Rodriguez Elementary School, which has a B-minus on Niche. They then move on to Carl W. Goetz Middle School, which has a B, and Jackson Liberty High School, which has a B-minus. Alongside its AP courses, Jackson Liberty High offers vocational courses through the Ocean County Vocational Technical schools.
Crawford Rodriguez Elementary School is home to over 530 pre-k to 5th grade students.
Ocean County Vocational Technical School offers a diverse range of programs designed to align with current industry demands and prepare students for successful careers.

Horseback riding and nearby parks
Harmony is full of forested areas, and Coyle says it’s common for people to hunt nearby. There are horse stables and a horseback riding facility, The Posnerosa in the neighborhood. Just 4 miles away, Turkey Swamp Park has hiking trails, campgrounds and an archery range. There’s also a 17-acre lake popular for fishing and kayaking. When the lake freezes during the winter, people head out for ice skating. About 9 miles away, Six Flags Great Adventure is a huge theme park full of rides. It sits next to Six Flags Wild Safari, a 350-acre drive-thru wildlife park full of lions, bears and giraffes. Together, the two parks serve as major attractions, drawing visitors even from out of state.

Shopping and dining on Chandler Road and along U.S. Route 9
There’s a small collection of restaurants and businesses on Chandler Road. Minit Stop Market offers morning coffee and breakfast pastries or sandwiches and grab-and-go lunches alongside a few groceries like eggs, bread and ice cream. Mateo’s Pizzeria is a go-to for picking up a quick meal, and Solo Bella is a sit-down Italian restaurant. ShopRite has groceries just over a mile away, but more more shopping and dining options, most residents drive 6 miles to the string of shopping centers on U.S. Route 9. These shopping centers contain major retailers like Kohl’s, Target and T.J. Maxx as well as more grocery options like Walmart and ALDI. About 7 miles away, Jackson Premium Outlets also offers major retailers like Coach, Crate & Barrel and Loft.
