Those who don't own farmland in Herrold live near Saylorville Lake, along Northwest Beaver Drive. Most live in Craftsman or ranch-style homes with three bedrooms, paved driveways and large yards. Many homes in Herrold were built in the late 90s and early 2000s. In the Sunset Ridge community, skinny sidewalks line the streets and cul-de-sacs, making it easy for residents to walk down to the community mailboxes to collect letters. Those in the Eagle Pointe community can walk down their long driveways to check their personal mailboxes. Eagle Pointe homes are larger and feature Tudor-inspired designs with stone siding and large lots. It's showtime at Johnston High
Wallace Elementary and Johnston Middle School share the same campus, and both get an A from Niche. Students spend their sophomore through senior years at the A-minus-rated Johnston High School. Here, students might try out for the state championship-winning track and field team or show off their singing skills in the show choir. JHS also hosts the annual show choir competition, Showzam. Show choir groups from around the Johnston School District visit JHS to perform and compete for the top spot.
