Right off I-29, rural farmland and two cities
Situated within Platte Woods in Kansas City's Northlands, Platte Ridge provides residents with a comfortable suburban experience, just around the corner from the lakes of Weatherby and Waukomis and several shopping outlets. Within less than a half mile is Interstate 29, providing routes to North Kansas City and Kansas City's historic downtown. "Farther that way is a good mix of farmland, subdivisions and a few lakes," says Jessie Caliman, a Kansas City native and librarian at the Kansas City Central Library, 11 miles from Platte Ridge. "You also have North Kansas City, which feels like a smaller version of KC's downtown area."
Leafy front lawns of Platte Ridge
Rows of ranch-style homes, including raised ranches, are built into the hilly terrain, beautified by large, leafy trees. These 1,500 to 2,000 square feet homes offer three bedrooms and three baths, often selling between $265,000 and roughly $305,000. Houses on larger plots of land sit on the gravel Bridle Parc Lane with white picket fences and long driveways. Much of this rural farmland consists of windmills and barns on multiple-acre properties, with a price tag hovering around $500,000 and $650,000. Closer to Weatherby Lake, homes often sell between $500,000 and $674,000, with some exceeding $1 million for an estate next to the water.
Close to both Park University and Park Hill School District
An entire Park Hill School District pipeline is within walking distance: Renner Elementary School, earning a B Niche score; Congress Middle School, which earns an impressive A-minus grade from Niche; and Park Hill High School, earning an A from Niche. The high school consistently attains high ratings for its academics and state championship athletics program. Four miles away, the private Park University offers four-year programs with views of the Missouri River as its neighbor.
Getting around the Northlands
Neighboring Interstate 29 facilitates commuting into North Kansas City and Kansas City. However, its proximity to the highway could be noisy. For getaways, Kansas City International Airport is about seven miles away, or typically a nine-minute drive, and for immediate healthcare needs, St Luke's North Hospital-Barry Road is less than a mile away and behind the local Walmart Supercenter.
Zona Rosa weekends
The retail and dining hub of Zona Rosa town center includes the Improv Comedy Club and the popular 54th Street Restaurant & Drafthouse, a spacious bar and grill serving burgers, fried chicken and loaded potato skins. The plaza offers a massive courtyard for yard games, pickleball and lit fire pits for colder weather. The Barrywoods shopping center also allows locals to catch a movie or to game the day away at Main Event's bowling lanes, air hockey tables and arcade games. Bally's Casino is right on Kansas City's shoreline for those feeling lucky.
Within a drive from three large lakes, multiple parks and the Missouri River
Sandwiched between Weatherby Lake and Lake Waukomis, with Riss Lake to the south, Platte Ridge is within a few miles of outdoor and waterfront recreation. Small parks like Amity Woods Nature Park offer a short nature walk on a paved path, while Barry Road Park and Park View Subdivision Park offer clean playgrounds, 8 tennis courts and a community pool. Sunny weekends bring families to English Landing and Platte Landing Parks' beaches, picnic benches and access to the Missouri River. Golf club enthusiasts head to the Golf Club of Kansas City to practice their swing. At the same time, locals of all ages can take advantage of Platte County Community Center's indoor gym and various recreational programs.
More than just the Platte County Fair
While the main event of the year is the Platte County Fair, consisting of a demolition derby, a rodeo and a tractor pull, there’s a ton to do just across the river, 11 miles away, like browsing produce and crafts at the famous City Market. Farther down Main Street and less than 5 miles away, locals drift through museums like the Arabia Steamboat Museum and revel in the excitement of the Power and Lights District, the buzzing hive of KC's nightlife. "It's truly the epicenter of our nightlife. KC Live is this huge club that hosts this huge NYE celebration that attracts many people in and around the city," Caliman says. "The P and L District is only about 12 minutes away if you catch an Uber." When locals want to turn their evening down a notch, the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts is off Broadway Boulevard.
