Interstate 95 access accommodates commutes from rural Kenly
Kenly is a friendly country community located about 40 miles southeast of Raleigh. Interstate 95 cuts through the area, and visitors might know Kenly for its truck stop, which has a small-scale replica of the Cape Hatteras lighthouse marking its entrance. “It’s a quaint town with access to major highways,” says Beth Hines, a Realtor with Re/Max Southland Realty, who grew up nearby. “You can commute to Raleigh, or any direction, fairly quickly.”

Remote country roads and modern ranch-style homes
Most homes in Kenly sit on remote country roads, with green fields and mature trees taking up the space between properties. Many are single-story, with various architectural influences from Georgian and Colonial to new construction in a modern Craftsman style. Home prices vary, depending on lot size and the property’s condition. Modern ranch-style homes may be in the $200,000 range on a little over 1,000 square feet. In the $300,000 range, buyers can expect a home with modern interiors on about 3,000 square feet. As prices continue to rise, so do lot sizes. “Home prices are lower than towns closer to Raleigh," Hines says. "You can get a better deal based on the location."
Kenly is about a 45-minute drive from Raleigh.

Locally owned shops and restaurants in downtown Kenly
Downtown Kenly is a small Southern town center featuring rows of local businesses and restaurants. “There aren’t many chains here,” Hines says. “Most shops are local.” This is a great place to spend a weekend afternoon window shopping. Pop into Wheeler Dealer on West Second Street, a family-owned store selling automobilia and collectibles. Here, old road signs line the wall, and there might even be a classic car parked out front. Head next door to Outdoor Accessories Unlimited, a locally owned and operated business that supplies the community with all of its fishing needs. Grab groceries from Food Lion on South Church Street or eat out at Nik’s Pizza & Restaurant across the road, a local favorite for pizza that also offers Italian and Greek selections. Stormin Norman’s BBQ, also on South Church Street, serves country cooking in a rustic log cabin.
