Lakeside communities in a small town

A small town of less than 1,500, Keystone Heights is a commuter city for workers in Gainesville and Jacksonville with a tightknit community. “People come here who want to know their neighbors and find smaller schools for their kids,” says Steven Milligan, a Realtor with CW Realty who has lived in the area for 30 years. Notable for its many lakes, Keystone Heights residents play an active role in nature preservation. “The city works hard to keep the lakes in good condition so everyone can enjoy them,” Milligan says. Locals say the community is a welcome change of pace from the hurried lifestyle in adjacent cities; residents are 25 miles from Gainesville and 56 miles from Jacksonville.

Ranch-style homes by the lakeside

Find single-family homes in Keystone Heights; Craftsman-and ranch-style houses range from $200,000 to $300,000 for late 20th-century models and $300,000 to $400,000 for newer construction from the 2000s. Acre lots, short driveways and leafy lawns with tall oak trees are common features. Near Gatorbone Lake, find secluded, waterfront ranch-style homes among oak trees draped in Spanish Moss starting at $275,000. “For now, Keystone Heights is more affordable than Gainesville and Jacksonville, but the secret’s out so we’ll see how long that lasts,” Milligan says.
