Rural living with access to Greeley in La Salle
LaSalle is a small, Weld County town with a rural atmosphere, located between Greeley's southern suburbs and thousands of acres of northern Colorado farmland. With the South Platte River to the north and Rocky Mountain vistas to the west, the community has a peaceful and outdoorsy feel, while still being close to modern conveniences and amenities.
Front range recreation in La Salle
There are tennis courts near the intersection of Sunset Drive and South Fourth Street. Other recreational areas in the neighborhood include:
- Main Park, with a playground, picnic shelters, horseshoe pits and open fields
- Wayne Norman Memorial Park, which hosts baseball league games
- Riverside Park, with various baseball, basketball and tennis facilities, walking paths and a fishing lake
Additionally, LaSalle is around 60 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park.
Housing market and affordability
Most of the homes in LaSalle were built between the early 1900s and the 1970s, with some newer builds from the early 2000s and 2010s throughout. “La Salle is a really small town, but you’re close to big cities and the outdoors,” says Lacey Stevens, a local real estate agent with eXp Realty. “You have easy access to those things while maintaining a quiet home base.” Ranch-style homes, bi-levels and modern traditionals are common and many have fenced-in back yards and attached garages. Lots range from around 6,000 square feet to over a quarter acre. Most streets are lined with well-maintained sidewalks that lead to small neighborhood parks as well as its small business district. “You’ll find more affordability here compared to nearby towns like Evans or Greeley,” Stevens says. Single-family homes start in the low $200,000s and reach the upper $500,000s, while townhouses range from the upper $100,000s to the mid $200,000s.
Community events and sports leagues
The community hosts a variety of events and programs throughout the year, including LaSalle Days every July. The festival spans across three days and is complete with food trucks, vendor booths, a fun run, a mud volleyball tournament and a fireworks show. The local recreation department organizes an array of sports leagues, including tee ball, youth flag football and an adult volleyball league.
Public schools serving La Salle
The town is served by Weld County School District re-1, starting with Pete Mirich Elementary School. Across the street, the highly rated North Valley Middle School offers a variety of extracurricular activities, from swim team to cross country. Valley High School is around 5 miles away in the neighboring town of Gilcrest. For private and charter schooling options, Greeley is home to institutions like Saint Mary Catholic School and Salida Del Sol Academy.
Local businesses and access to major shopping centers
While La Salle is largely residential, Main Street and state Route 85 both have a handful of businesses and amenities, including a long-standing bar, a bike shop and a hardware store. Nearby eateries include:
- Don Robert’s Bakery, which sells pastries and breakfast burritos
- Jem’s Cafe, serving pub fare
- Armadillo LaSalle, specializing in traditional Mexican cuisine
There is a Family Dollar in town, with Greeley shopping centers just a few miles north. The Greeley Mall is home to over 50 businesses, including a movie theater, clothing boutiques and a gaming store. Walmart and Sam’s Club are also both nearby on 23rd Street.
Nearby employers and commuting
Weld County’s economy is largely reliant on the agriculture, education and energy industries, with major area employers like JBS USA, Noble Energy, Leprino Foods and the University of Northern Colorado. “La Salle is tied to Weld County’s huge farming economy,” Stevens says. “It’s one of the most productive counties in terms of agriculture in the United States.” Route 85 can take drivers around 50 miles south to downtown Denver, with Loveland, Longmont and Fort Lupton all within 30 miles. While the community is largely car reliant, locals can catch the Poudre Express Bus from Greeley with service to Windsor and Fort Collins.
