Open to pedestrians, cyclists, and equestrians, this paved path follows the old Sacramento Northern Railway corridor, often running beside Las Trampas Creek and largely shaded by tall trees. Longtime residents lead to low housing inventory in sought-after Trails
Ranch-style homes and Craftsman-style bungalows are common here, most built in the 1940s and '50s. Layouts for both styles range from about 1,000 to 2,500 square feet. New traditional homes from the early 2000s tend to have two stories, four bedrooms and Craftsman-style details like small porches and white-painted trim. These larger homes range from about 2,500 to 4,000 square feet. Ranch-style and new traditional homes are set on lots of a quarter-acre to a half-acre, while bungalows are set on smaller lots of about 6,000 to 8,000 square feet. Most homes have private driveways that lead to attached two-car garages. Near Downtown Lafayette, streets are wide and generally lined with narrow sidewalks and mature oak trees; homes sit on smaller, well-maintained grassy lots. Heading away from town, streets become narrower and more winding, and homes are set on larger, often elevated lots; tree and shrub cover tends to be more lush, offering a greater sense of privacy. Throughout the neighborhood, homes start at about $1 million and range to upward of $3.5 million, depending on square footage, upgrades and lot size. Housing inventory is usually limited, as buyers here tend to put down roots.
