Lake Arbor, nestled within the DC metropolitan area, underwent significant changes in the 1980s when community developers built 2,000 luxury houses featuring two-car garages and brick exteriors. Today the area remains a suburban oasis of single-family houses on spacious lots and a wide variety of parks.

As a suburb, Lake Arbor consists of cul-de-sacs and winding roads of single-family houses. Known for being a master-planned community, the area offers plenty of sidewalks and well-groomed landscaping. “It’s a really nice area for families. The houses are on the larger side. There are a lot of trees growing there,” says Tommy Sowole, Realtor with Delta Exclusive Realty, LLC. Lot sizes within Lake Arbor average around 18,000 square feet. Much of the architecture features Colonial Revivals, town houses and Dutch Colonials. As for sales prices, prospective buyers can expect a range between $295,000 for a smaller town house to $615,000 for a four-bedroom Colonial Revival.

For recreation, Lake Arbor has many great places to enjoy the outdoors, no matter what time of year it is. You can go for a scenic stroll or run next to Northampton Lake. At Arbor Park, bring children to the playgrounds and play tennis or basketball at the courts. In the spring, the nearby Lake Arbor Community Center hosts a community Easter egg hunt as well as summer camps for children. The community center also has the annual Lake Arbor Jazz Festival to enjoy live music and bands. The Lake Arbor Elementary School’s playground is open to all children in the area.

Lake Arbor is home to many local businesses and restaurants, as well as several major retailers. The Lake Abor Village Shopping Center offers essential services including a barbershop, nail salon, hair studio, orthodontics, bank and daycare. The Lake Arbor neighborhood is also within a short drive to Largo Town Center’s wings or seafood restaurants and clothing stores — as well as a Lowe’s, Target and more at Largo Plaza. The neighborhood is also close to a bevy of familiar fast-food fare.

Students in Lake Arbor attend Prince George's County Public Schools. According to Niche, the district earns an A rating in diversity and a B in clubs and activities. Schools include Lake Arbor Elementary School, Ernest Everett Just Middle School and Largo High School. The district’s career-readiness programs offer special features like language immersion and dual enrollment.

Residents and visitors enjoy local landmarks while exploring Lake Arbor. The historic Newton White Mansion is considered one of the most beautiful places in Prince George's County and is used as a wedding venue. Its neo-Georgian style architecture is known for an abundance of detail. You’ll also be near the prestigious FedEx Field, home of the Washington Commanders National Football League team. Living this close to the NFL action, you can choose to enjoy the stadium’s photo ops, tailgating, food trucks and fireworks shows.

With the population increasing and many job opportunities nearby, Lake Arbor is a community on the rise. Major employers such as the federal government, Danaher Corporation, Fannie Mae, Amtrak, and Lockheed Martin are close to the suburb. It’s an ideal location for commuters since it’s centrally located between Baltimore and Washington, DC. Two major hospitals, Bowie Health Center and the University of Maryland’s Capital Regional Medical Center are also close by.

Lake Arbor is only about 15 miles from DC, but travel times vary depending on whether you commute by car, metro or bus. Sometimes traveling 10 miles can take an hour in rush hour traffic or in a busy traffic corridor. In Lake Arbor, enjoy a thriving suburb of larger single-family homes and many parks to enjoy the outdoors.
